Basketball Australia has unveiled a modern, nationally consistent Coach Development Framework - supporting coaches at every stage of their journey.

Made possible through the Game Development Levy, the Framework delivers flexible learning, recognises real coaching experience, and creates clearer pathways across 5x5, 3x3 and adaptive basketball.

Because investing in our coaches is investing in the future of our game.

NEW MODULE ALERT- Defensive transition is more than simply getting players back behind the ball. It is a dynamic phase of the game where players must quickly recognise threats, make decisions, communicate and work collectively to remove offensive advantage.

This module explores how Coaches can build and teach a clear defensive transition game model. Coaches will examine how to prioritise the rim, ball, space and match-ups; manage numerical advantage and disadvantage; connect offensive rebounding and shot selection to transition defence; and determine what their team is prepared to concede.

Through practical examples, coaching questions and representative practice design, the module challenges coaches to move beyond prescribed transition rules and develop players who can recognise the problem, prioritise the threat and make effective decisions under pressure.

Rachael and Nikki, two Basketball Australia Community Coach Mentoring participants, talk with Coach Logic co-founder Andy Muir about their experience of Basketball Australia’s Community Coach Mentoring Programme and the part SAM played in it.

SAM (Session Analysis Model) classifies coaching behaviours in a session recording, and every moment links back to the video. Coaches and their mentors can then review what actually happened and have a better reflective conversation about it.

In this conversation, Rachael and Nikki talk about seeing their own coaching on screen, working through it with a mentor, and taking what they noticed back into their next session. by @ba_coaches
