When you think about your weakness, disappointment, brokenness, and the negative side of life, pause for a moment. Remember your health, and thank God for the simple breath you inhale.

Today at Lafenwa Market, in the middle of noise, movement, and people running for survival, something unexpected happened. Someone dragged my cloth from behind and shouted my name loudly: “NASIRU!”

I turned back, confused.

It was Seun — not the other Seun (Honourable)😂😂😂 — but someone I knew back in secondary school. Our seats were once close; our lives were once on the same page. Yet standing before me was a completely different reality.

He was wearing more than 15 clothes at the same time, layered on each other, and none of them were clean. Still, he recognized me instantly. Life hadn’t taken his memory, only his comfort. Without hesitation, he demanded money — not rudely, just desperately.

I handed him the little I could afford. In exchange, he smiled and gave me a Baba Ijebu number 😂😂😂 — as if hope, no matter how strange, must always find a way to survive.

As we parted, many thoughts flooded my mind.
How did Seun get here?
Where did things go wrong?
How did two people who shared the same classroom end up on completely different sides of life?

I walked on, still deep in thought, discussing the whole scenario with my workers. Then something even more surprising happened.

An old man walked up to me gently and said, “Please, can you help me share that same number?” 😍😂😂

At that moment, I couldn’t help but smile.

Life is truly a mystery.

In a world where everyone is hustling, praying, hoping, and surviving in their own way, it reminded me of one powerful truth: never take “normal” for granted. Health is wealth. Sanity is a blessing. The ability to walk freely, think clearly, and breathe without struggle is grace.

May we never mock anyone’s fall.
May we never forget how close life’s edge can be.
And may God never make us a lesson that someone else uses to count their blessings. by @babanas1

I read a story where a lady helped someone to secure #50,000 for her daughter's university school fees.

She stated further that after the woman collected the money, she hasn't bothered to properly show appreciation for the gesture.

This brought me back to my early days in Oke Efon, where we were all born and brought up.

When growing up, I learned so many things from our 'face-me-I-face-you' compound where we were born and brought up.

For every Maggi cube you collected from your neighbors, who were mostly my family (aunts or uncles' wives), it was most definitely followed with appreciation, such as "Thank you, ma," "Thanks for yesterday," and many more.

Aside from appreciation, people tend to forget that greetings also create a bond and give way to establishing conversations.

For example, whoever we met at our community tap water, before you could ask the person to assist you to lift up your pail or bucket of water, you must have exchanged pleasantries and been familiar with the person; otherwise, you're carrying your load all alone.

We mustn't forget how we were brought up.

This morning, around 10:45 a.m., as I was leaving my gate, I saw Florence sitting outside her house. She was gisting (chatting) with her grandma and other co-tenants in their compound.

I immediately inquired why she wasn't in school at that time of day. Florence, an orphan who lives with her paternal grandmother, is an SS2 student at Ilugun High School. The school is located two kilometers away from our neighborhood and its boundary runs along the Arakanga River, which links to the Ogun River.

"You haven't heard what happened?" she asked.

I asked her what happened, and she explained:
On Thursday last week, some students from her school were wandering around the bush (awon omo school). Their movement was brought to the attention of the Principal, who then invited the Amotekun corps to arrest the students so they could be punished accordingly.

During the process, some students ran to avoid being caught. Tragically, they fell into the Arakanga River and drowned.

This was unknown to the school authority until yesterday morning, when the corpse of one of the students was retrieved and about two other corpses were seen floating on the river.

This drew the attention of neighbors and passersby, who raised the alarm, but "aso o ba omoye mo" (it was too late to save the situation).

The families of the affected students came to the school this morning to confront the authorities.

The confrontation was hijacked by thugs, and every student had to run for safety.

Dear parents, please warn your children about their activities in school and the kind of friends they keep. Remember them in your prayers.
