I often say that I love what I do, I do what I love, and I feel incredibly lucky to be able to say that. But my favorite part of this work has always been the people—the unexpected connections and the privilege of meeting truly wonderful human beings.

Today was one of those especially sweet encounters.
A few days ago, I received a phone call from a woman named Debbie, asking whether I would be interested in some pawpaws for our kombucha. Of course, I said yes! Pawpaws are native to Pennsylvania, but their season is incredibly short, and they can be difficult—and quite expensive—to find.

Debbie told me that she and her husband, Mitchell, had more pawpaws than they could use and would be happy to give them to me. So today, I drove to their home to pick them up.

What could have been a quick stop turned into the loveliest visit. Debbie and Mitchell were genuinely excited to share their pawpaws with me. They showed me their pawpaw trees, and Mitchell gave me a tour of the garden he is so passionate about, even inviting me to taste the peppers he grows.

Debbie is a textile and mosaic artist, and she created the beautiful mosaic in their garden that you’ll see in the photos. I also had the chance to learn a little about their lives, their work, and the things that continue to bring them joy in retirement.

I came home with beautiful local pawpaws for a future batch of kombucha, but even more importantly, I came home grateful for another wonderful connection.

Thank you, Debbie and Mitchell, for the pawpaws, the garden tour, and such a warm and memorable afternoon. Encounters like this take my work from something I love to something truly extraordinary.

There’s a great saying: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

I’m so grateful for this incredible team that keeps Baba’s Brew moving forward, no matter what life throws our way.

We work hard together, problem-solve together, celebrate the wins, and somehow make it through the crazy days together.

It was so nice to have everyone together, away from work for an evening, gathered around the same table sharing good food, stories, and lots of laughs.

Baba’s Brew wouldn’t be what it is without these people. Feeling very lucky and very grateful for every single one of them. ❤️

The face you make when you realize the manager of one of your favorite stores is wearing the exact same T-shirt as you. 😂

If you’ve been brewing kombucha for a while, you know the SCOBY problem. 😂 They multiply… and multiply… and suddenly you have way more than you know what to do with.

You can compost them. You can make SCOBY jerky. Or you can do one of my favorite things with an extra SCOBY — turn it into a chocolate face mask. 🍫

Here’s how I make mine.

It’s no secret that when the people working at a store genuinely love your product, their customers feel that excitement too.

That is certainly the case at @weaversway in Mt. Airy, where we sell more than a dozen kegs of kombucha every month.

Today, I made a quick stop there, and as soon as I walked in, Robin, one of the co-op’s working members, came right up to me and said, “Purple Rain is my favorite!”

Moments like this mean so much to me. I am incredibly grateful for this community and for the people who so genuinely support and champion a small local business like ours. 💜

Have bucha, will travel 🤩

Running out of Baba's Brew on vacation is a rare event... but it led to a happy surprise.

Today's stop at the OCNJ Farmers Market introduced me to not one, but two local kombuchas I'd never tasted before. I love seeing how different people interpret the same craft.

Shout-out to @champagnetea and @lifesgoji for quenching my kombucha thirst!

Cheers to local fermentation! 🥂
