#LionOfOsageOn Sunday, June 28, 2026, our family had the incredible honor of celebrating my father, #GeraldWayneRenfrow’s legacy as we officially unveiled the renaming of the 6200 Block of Osage Avenue in West Philadelphia as “Gerald Wayne Renfrow Way.”For those who may not know my father’s story, his legacy was built on courage, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to justice.Following the tragic MOVE bombing on May 13, 1985—when the City of Philadelphia dropped a bomb on Osage Avenue, resulting in the deaths of 11 people (6 adults and 5 children) and the destruction of my family’s home along with more than 60 others—my father refused to let our community be forgotten.Together with my mother, he organized the neighbors and led the fight for restitution, accountability, and the restoration of the homes that had been devastated. Even as decades passed and the City-owned properties remained vacant and blighted due to neglect, he never stopped advocating for the people of Osage Avenue and Pine Street. Immediately following the tragedy in 1985, my father was elected by his neighbors to serve as Block Captain. A former Philadelphia police officer, owner of our family’s roofing company, and proud homeowner on Osage Avenue, Gerald Wayne Renfrow became the voice of a community determined to be heard.Through five Philadelphia administrations—Goode, Rendell, Street, Nutter, and Kenney—he remained relentless in holding City leaders accountable and demanding they do right by his neighbors. Today, my father’s tireless work and unwavering commitment to our family, our neighbors, and our community are forever enshrined in history. Our family is deeply grateful to Councilmember @jamiegauthier215, the Philadelphia City Council, Pennsylvania House Speaker @joanna_mcclinton, Pennsylvania State @senator_anthonyhwilliams & Community Leader @arnettwoodall @woodallarnett for making this long-overdue recognition possible. Your leadership has ensured that my father’s #legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. ❤️#Dad, your name now stands where your heart always was—on Osage Avenue, forever. We love you. We miss you. We honor you.To God Be The Glory. 🙏🏾 by @babatphilly
