Square Fare works with many pre and post partum moms and families to provide nourishing and restorative food. So excited to bring together and honor doulas and birth workers in an evening dedicated to them 🩷 it was a gratitude-filled gathering designed to give back to the people who give so much.

So many highlights! The strong sense of community created by Jen @babycaravan , Samer’s meditative music @tone_center , Thalia’s restorative acupressure @muse_medicine , @malinandgoetz ‘s nourishing hand treatments (and intoxicating scents in store!), Square Fare’s colorful and nutrient dense food.

It was a special time :)

Recently on Facebook I saw a birthday celebration for one of my first doula baby clients who turned 19 (!) and I realized I’ve been working in birth work for 20 years…since 2005.

I’ve been reflecting on that conversations and initiatives that have generally been the focus over the past 20 years for birth workers… what’s changed and what hasn’t changed.

While I’m saddened that outcomes for maternal health are still an area needed for advocacy and awareness raising, I was heartened to attend a recent book reading from @irincarmon from her book: Unbearable.

Irin, spoke with @charlottealter of TIME and @oulahealth lead midwife, Saonjie Hamilton (@simplyjie524) as they spoke about the realities of pregnancy in America. We got to hear about their shared a vision for a future where person-centered, compassionate care is the norm, rather than an exception that birthing people seek out.
