Only two silent films have ever won Best Picture at the Oscars.

But did you know only one horror movie has ever won Best Picture. Can you guess which one?

Characters are introduced on the page before the director, actor, costume designer, and makeup and hair team interpret them.

Screenplays are the underlying blueprint of all movies.

How do your favourite characters appear on the page? Which script should I look at next? 🤔

A common getting-to-know-you question is "What was the first movie you watched in a theatre?"

Truth is, I don't remember.

But I do remember the first movies that felt *different* to me when I started growing up.

Sure, The Goofy Movie and Winnie the Pooh left an impact on me. But I know that the first grown-up movies I watched made me think differently about myself and the situations in my life.

Movies where I could exercise emotional intelligence.
Movies that felt like they were About something.
Movies where you get something new every time you watch it.

There are still a lot more movies I can rediscover as an adult.

I started scripting this reel before this year's Olympics.

For the most part, it didn't change much. I always wanted to talk about how sports movies have an almost identical story structure to Henry V, Shakespeare's celebrated history play.

But the more Henry V adaptations I saw, the more I saw how the play is interpreted differently with each new movie. The famous "Crispin Day" speech felt fresh with new actors.

-Laurence Olivier leaned into the texture of the words
-Kenneth Branagh leaned into the English patriotism
-Mark Rylance spoke directly to friends

And I realized that that sports stories aren't static. It matters who is telling the story.

After the Olympics, it feels different. It's like sports and identity and pride intersect in complicated ways.

I still love to watch sports stories. But even though I know who to cheer for in Karate Kid and The Blind Side, real life isn't always that cut and dry.
