As we celebrate our 150th anniversary year, Belmont Abbey College is thrilled to dedicate our refurbished stage and the theatre itself to Simon Donoghue, legendary Director of the Abbey Players and a cherished member of our college community for nearly 50 years.

On October 3, the 50th anniversary of Simon’s directorial debut with the Abbey Players, we invite you to join us as we celebrate his profound legacy and inaugurate a new era of Belmont Abbey Performing Arts in The Simon Donoghue Theatre.

An Easter Message from President Jeffrey W. Talley:
I begin with the words of St. John Henry Newman, who said …
“None rejoice in Easter-tide less than those who have not grieved in Lent. This is what is seen in the world at large. To them, one season is the same as another, and they take no account of any. Feast-day and fast-day, holy tide and other tide, are one and the same to them. Hence, they do not realize the next world at all. To them, the Gospels are but like another history; a course of events … they do not make our Saviour's life and death present to them: they do not transport themselves back to the time of His sojourn on earth. They do not act over again, and celebrate His history, in their own observance; and the consequence is, that they feel no interest in it. They have neither faith nor love towards it; it has no hold on them. They do not form their estimate of things upon it; they do not hold it as a sort of practical principle in their heart (Newman Sermon 23, Keeping Fast and Festival, April 15, 1838).

Here at Belmont Abbey College, the students, faculty, and staff join our hearts, minds, souls, and voices with the monks of Belmont Abbey and all the followers of Christ worldwide, and shout:

SAVE THE DATE! It's been awhile since we had a social event in Charlotte. Let's get our Charlotte-Mecklenburg and Gaston County alumni downtown for a few beverages and snacks. Tom Timmins '98 is the owner of Workman's Friend and is graciously allocating space for us to have a drop-in style event. President Talley is planning to attend and we are working on having representation from the monastery as well.

Let's have a great turnout of local alumni. I would especially like to invite alums from our Adult Degree Program (ADP). I spoke with two ADP alumni at Dr. Talley's inauguration reception and they let me know (in a very nice way!) that we need to acknowledge the vast numbers of non-traditional students who benefited from The Abbey Experience but didn't live on campus.

REGISTER FOR YACHT ROCK 2026! Tickets are now available for purchase for our Rockaway Beach, NY event on March 21 from 1:30 to 4:30 pm.

Get early bird pricing of $100 through Feb. 21. All proceeds go towards the Alumni Legacy Scholarship.

Good food, great music, and prizes will be available. Located at the Rockaway Hotel, this is a terrific venue for an Abbey reunion. Come join your fellow Abbey alums and friends to reconnect and share our memories of our incredible alma mater!

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Patrick Brady, Class of 2006. He died in the line of duty with the Fire Department of New York while responding to a five-alarm fire in Brooklyn, NY.

Dr. Daniel Hutchinson, a friend of Patrick’s, shared this: "Patrick Brady was an incredible human being, whose infectious laugh could fill the room. He was also the type of person who charged toward danger to save others. That remarkable spirit was inspired by his family's commitment to public service, particularly his brothers Brian and Jimmy, who served alongside him in the FDNY. While the world is dimmer today without Patrick, the light he gave the world will continue to shine."

We honor his service and pray for his wife, Kara, and the entire Brady family. The Abbey will hold a Mass in remembrance of Patrick. May he rest in peace. ❤️ by @bacalumni
