If the Bachata is danced on 1,2,3,Tap at least 90%+ of the time during the dance, with 10% appropriate styling / decoration options, does it still count as a Bachata?When the Bachata is created by Dominicans in Dominican Republic and by diaspora Dominicans living in large Dominican communities on the East Coast (USA) - and clearly rooted in Dominican culture, roots, heritage, identity and history but there are slight nuances and differences, and the lines are a bit blurry, as in East Coast USA Bachata style by Dominicans that is seen in the Ataca y Alemana 2008 video parts that I clipped out and uploaded recently... So how / who gets to decide when it is all Dominican? Some agreed and some disagreed that the clip I edited and uploaded was not Bachata. The whole dance video that went viral on YouTube was not majority Bachata but less than one minute of it that I clipped out was the East Coast USA style Bachata by Dominicans... The East Coast USA has the largest Dominican Diaspora population and community in the world. The East Coast USA is also the closest to Dominican Republic.We all agree that Sensual etc., are not Bachata for obvious reasons: they are not created by Dominicans, they are not bred in Dominican communities, they don't resemble Bachata in anyway. The Bachata community is rooted in love, unity, and respect, from a diverse group of people and dancers, from all walks of life, who truly share the same ideals, values and respect for Bachata and all her attributes: the culture, the roots, the history, the heritage, the people of the culture and the identity. Defending, protecting and preserving these values and ideals does not equate to hate and division.Say no to cultural appropriation. Bachata is Bachata! We speak up because we love Bachata. When you truly love something you defend it with everything you have, without fear... You protect it to preserve it, to keep it from being destroyed, contaminated, erased and lost forever.... You speak up to protect what it stands for... To preserve it for future generations to also enjoy and love. Remaining silent or not doing anything at all is being an accomplice in the destruction of Bachata, something you claim to love and cherish....So what can you do to be on the right side of the Bachata history? Here are some suggestions; you can do some or all of these things:- Upload videos of you dancing Bachata, and sometimes or all the time, mention or use hashtags like: bachata, notoculturalappropriation, bachataisbachata- Stop validating other counterfeit dances who dishonestly refer to themselves bachata (or adding bachata to their name). Refuse to call them Bachata-anything. Call them by the non-bachata name or give them a new name.- Stop incorrectly calling or writing Bachata in your descriptions, event names etc., as "Traditional, Dominican Bachata, Bachata Dominicana, Traditional Bachata etc.". Just call it Bachata because that's what it really is. That is it's name.- Also stop using hashtags like: Traditional bachatadominicana, dominicanbachata, traditionalbachata etc.- Don't support misleading events that don't really F with Bachata and Dominican Republic. Don't spend your money or time on them.- Support content that prmote Bachata with a Like, Comment, Share, Repost so that it can reach more people.- Talk to people about Bachata. Show them Bachata and how to dance to it. Encourage them to visit Dominican Republic or attend Bachata event.- Don't be scared of losing money, friends etc., for speaking up for Bachata. Money comes and goes, but your integrity does not.- And the list goes on and on...- Do you have other suggestions/tips?We are all in this together. Say no to cultural appropriation.
