POSTS STORIES REELS
It’s SPOOKY SZN, storytellers!🦇 And you know what that means—the news cycle is more horrifying than ever!! JKJK. (Cept not.💀) Come counteract the capitalization of our misery, and remember the FUNDAMENTAL GOODNESS of humans SHARING STORIES in our own words—and in community. Better yet, the magic of listening, and being reminded of the ties that bind…even in the afterlife. (*ghostly whistle.*) This month’s theme? SPINE TINGLING. 😱😳 Bring your stories of ghouls, goosebumps, and things that go bump in the night. Hairs prickling, or back tickling. Spinal surgeries and haunted cemeteries. A good trick? The first story that comes to mind when you hear the theme—that’s your gold. This month is especially exciting, as our first official collab with @lowstate_writing_salon! 🤝🙌Join their crew on 10/13 to write on the spine-tingling theme, and then bring your works-in-progress to @goodcompanysb on 10/29 to see how they land LIVE! 🎤 If there were ever a time to build human connection, it’s now. You do NOT need to participate nor prepare in order to attend, but both are welcome. Just no perfection, please. Or we’ll haunt you. 👻 🔸WHAT: true personal stories on the theme, told live, drawn at random from a bowl, capped at 10 minutes. 🔸WHO: dozens of soon-to-be-less-strange strangers. All ages welcome. 🔸WHEN: Thursday 10/29. Doors/potluck @ 5:30, stories @ 7:00. 🪦🌙🪦 #backbonestorytelling #storieswithspine #wegotyou #truestoriestoldlive #lowstatewritingsalon by @backbonestorytelling

We are back at it in October! Let's write into the changing of the season and sink deep into our spine tingling stories. See ya'll Oct 13, 7-9pm at Blue Owl, led by Trish Fancher, who is delighted to be back with ya'll! Write with lowstate. Share at Backbone. We love the crossover. We are collabing with @backbonestorytelling. The prompt on Oct 13 is Spine Tinging Stories and it'll be the same theme with @jennaticowrites at the Backbone storytelling event on Oct 29. xoxo. by @backbonestorytelling
PARTY TIME 🎉 We’ve been at this for 8 years now, and when’s the last time we just stopped and…celebrated? While I (Jenna) am still on mandated rest for my vocal injury, it’s hard to host—but you know what’s not hard? Stopping to smell the roses (and rosé) with all of you. Sipping wine and swapping stories in an informal, delightful manner. Pausing to appreciate how far we’ve come, and dream up where we’d like to go. 💭 Ever wanted to get to know your Backbone peeps in a casual manner? To explore the human behind the humor? The person behind the poem? This is your chance! Stop by @sbwinecollective anytime between 5:30-8 on 8/6, and get down to the source of where all good stories spring from: real life conversation, curiosity, and spontaneous connection. FREE DRINKS for the first 5 to arrive! 🏃‍♀️💭 There will also be a sacred SUGGESTION BOX for the next season of Backbone: theme ideas, feedback, collaboration potentials, you name it…we are building this thing together. Let’s honor and grow it. 🎙️ ⭐️ THURSDAY August 6, 2026 🍷131 Anacapa Street, suite C ⏰ 5:30-8 🍕 food by @luckypennysb See you there, storytellers! #backbonestorytelling #summersoiree #storieswithspine #livestorytelling #sbfunkzone by @backbonestorytelling
“Stories are a communal currency of humanity.” - Tahir Shah 🌎 In MOTHER TONGUE, you brought stories of redefined boundaries, the red thread, travel mishaps & magic, spit & sensation, relics & relishing & learning to rely. As one of you said, we live in bodies that “need to leak in order to heal.” Leak we did. Healing we are. Continue we will. Thank you to @sbwinecollective, @luckypennysb, @partyproperproductions and our beautiful storytellers for an unforgettable evening. 🎤💫 #backbonestorytelling #storieswithspine #truestoriestoldlive #storyslam #sbfunkzone by @backbonestorytelling
Join me as I read the transcription for several “Super Important and Totally Legitimate Opportunity Miss Shina!!!!!!” voicemails I’ve gotten about my book. Can’t wait for my big break in Germany! 👻🫩 Where have you gotten lost in translation? This Thursday, #backbonestorytelling takes on MOTHER TONGUE: stories of terminology, temper tantrums, terrifying transcriptions, our tender tethers, tonality, and of course, kissing with tongue. 👅 See you there, Santa Barbara. Find out what happens when we listen between the lines. 5.21.26 @sbwinecollective Doors at 5:30, mic opens at 7:00 Tarot by @manymoonsmentorship #storieswithspine #truestoriestoldlive #storyslam #mothertongue by @backbonestorytelling
Language is hard. 😮‍💨 Listening doesn’t have to be. Join us on Thursday 5/21 for MOTHER TONGUE, and use your mouth words (or don’t!!!) to share your best/worst/funniest/cringiest tales of getting lost in translation. Life is short, and even billboards aren’t forever. Let’s take pleasure in shared truth. Typos optional. #backbonestorytelling #storieswithspine #mothertongue #livestorytelling #truestoriestoldlive by @backbonestorytelling
We all come from one mother or another. 🌷Join us Thursday 5/21 for MOTHER TONGUE: an evening of true stories on the maternal, motherly, tonguerly… on matriarchs and melting hearts and how many licks to get to the center? … and the dream of a common language. As ever, true, personal stories (in any form) will be drawn at random from a bowl, capped at 10 minutes, and paired with delicious local wines, @luckypennysb, and the loving attention of dozens of soon-to-be-less-strange strangers. 🫂 You do NOT need to participate nor prepare, but both are welcome. Kick off MOMorial day weekend, bring your true stories of tongues, & give mom (and yourself) what she (and you) really want: to be heard. 🪽 In the spirit of sharing the mic, @centerlinecommunity will also be repping onsite to share resources for caregivers in and around Santa Barb and the SY valley! 💐 THURSDAY 5/21 DOORS AT 5:30 (mingle & eat) STORIES AT 7:00 #backbonestorytelling #storieswithspine #wegotyou #truestoriestoldlive #momorialday by @backbonestorytelling
Every time we have one of these evenings, I get a little worse at taking video. I like to think it’s because, every time, I get a little better at planting in the moment—falling in love with each of you through the honor of hearing your stories— and listening. Thanks for bringing us back to the now moment. Thanks for making it better. All of it. All of us. 🫀 #feettothefire #backbonestorytelling #storieswithspine #truestoriestoldlive #storyslam by @backbonestorytelling
Feet to the Fire 🔥 Limbs aloft, tarsals soft. When the flames lick our toes, will we think: I left it all on the field? The long slog toward the finish line, or futile scramble to the bubbling lid. When sitting still becomes sauna. When La-Z-Boy becomes barbed wire. What keeps us from action—or her twisted twin, accountability? Who pushes us? To take it too far? How do we become a rubber band ball of betterment? When it’s said and done, did they really think the witches were gone? The gold medal precedes the performance, and push delights in shove. We smell it in the air—the barbecue char of no longer being who we are. But when we’re not yet who we will be—what is our name? And what dear hand flicks the match into flame? 🕯️ Come share true stories & good company this Thursday, 2/26 at @sbwinecollective. Stories at 7, doors at 5:30 to eat & remember what community feels like. Make it so. Fan the flames of who you want to be ❤️‍🔥 🐦‍🔥 #backbonestorytelling #storieswithspine #truestoriestoldlive #feettothefire #yearofthefirehorse by @backbonestorytelling
