Lucky "luck luck" for 2026!!

We are blessed to be ranked at No.66 on Asia's 50 Best Bars 2026 — our third consecutive year in the list, and our fourth appearance over the past five years.

It's always an honour for our little bar to be listed amongst our amazing peers from across Asia, and we never take it for granted. Thank you, @50bestbars, for always showing love to Penang, and thank you to every guest, tourist, regular, and friend who have visited this cocktail canteen of ours over the past 10 years.

We look forward to celebrating with everyone at the bar. See you in Penang!

On October 23, Penang’s Backdoor Bodega brings its island stories to @abarhasnoname.sh.

@backdoorbodega treats Penang itself as the star ingredient, folding native herbs and flavours into cocktails that trace a street, a dish or a memory from the island. Janice Lok @janicecw__ and Thanesh Joel @stayin6ftunder lead the shift alongside Ming @ming_f25, shaking it up for one dynamic evening. A live DJ sets the tone, while @abarhasnoname.sh plays host to a slice of George Town.

On October 21, Penang’s Backdoor Bodega will bring its mischievous local-flavour cocktails to Bar Choice Shanghai.

Tucked behind a streetwear shop in George Town, @backdoorbodega is known for drinks that fold local ingredients like torch ginger flower, belacan and pandan into playful and flavourful cocktails. For one night only, Janice Lok @janicecw__ and Thanesh Joel @stayin6ftunder will join Ring Zhao @ringzhao2024 of @barchoice_teabar behind the bar, where the pair will shake it up alongside a live DJ set built for a late-night room.

@shen.pdf celebrated Chimney‘s 5-year-birthday. 2 years later, he and @backdoorbodega had made it to the podium of World’s 50 Best Bars - Best Cocktail Menu ”Backdoor Bodega Guide To Penang“.

We got lucky. The best is yet to come, to come back to Chimney‘s Lucky 7-Year-Anniversary. Not only Shen, but also the ”doorman“ , aka supervisor of the backdoor, the boilermaker, the Buro bartender of the year @stayin6ftunder

We wrap up our @penangcocktailweek shenanigans with one of Asia's most decorated bartenders — Ming (@ming_f25), who brings his new brainchild, A Bar Has No Name (@abarhasnoname.sh) to Penang, as he takes over the bar at Backdoor Bodega tonight.

A man that needs little introduction in the bartending world, Ming is an award-winning veteran with multiple accolades under his belt, including World Class Bartender of the Year China, Cointreau Margarita Challenge Global Champion, and DRiNK Awards Bartender of the Year, as well as leading the bar programme as General Manager of Guangzhou's Hope & Sesame in his previous role.

Join us in welcoming Ming to George Town tonight, 19 September, from 8 PM onwards, as we celebrate the penultimate night of Penang Cocktail Week 2026.

It's that time of the year again — when our island city of Penang comes alive with cocktail parties, bar-hopping barflies, and amazing bar takeovers such as this one.

Backdoor Bodega is proud to present a stellar Canadian guest bartender line up featuring Gregory J Buda (@gregoryjbuda), co-founder of Montréal Cocktail Festival and Bisou Bisou, Sally Groves (@with_sallymay) of El Pequeño — the smallest bar in Canada, as well as Élise Hanson (@elise.h3), Canada's Bartender of the Year 2025, in conjunction with Penang Cocktail Week 2026.

Catch the trio in action at Backdoor Bodega on Thursday, 17th September, from 8 PM onwards. Walk-ins only.

As we finally get into gear for 2026 — Backdoor Bodega's 10th year of dropping pins and serving drinks, we're proud to kick-start our 10th year celebrations with a special guest bartending shift by Joshua Hernández of Drifter's Joint (@driftersjoint), all the way from SF, California.

A globetrotting, content-creating bartender, Joshua develops beautiful and engaging cinematic content rooted in the storytelling of culture, travel, and the craft of hospitality as he visits bars and collaborates with bartenders on his journeys around the world.

Catch the man behind Drifter's Joint in the flesh at Backdoor Bodega, on Friday (20/3/2026) from 8 PM onwards, as he stops by George Town as part of the Drifter's Joint Asia Tour, made possible by our friends at The Elephant Room (@elephantroomsg) and DrinksConnexion (@drinksconnexion).
