Book

I’ve started writing a book about 33 years in Backfire! and the years before Backfire! in the M-town hardcore scene. Now that I have more times on my hands and the bands irreversible and definite end in november 2026 insight I have started writing again and hope to finish it before the end of 2027.

Shots will be fired and some will backfire but that is okay, I am not going to make new friends but definitely new enemies because telling the whole and complete story uncensored will not make everybody involved happy, including myself.

I’ve tried to put out a dvd with backstage footage of years of touring but nobody wanted to touch it with a ten-foot pole or put their name on it once they saw the footage. There will be no sugarcoating or sparing egos and images in this book.

I think it will clear up some vague rumors, make people smile, give a good inside view on touring as a hardcore band, our high “ups” and deep “downs” and everything in between.

Most of all I hope to reach people that struggle with trauma, addiction, suicidal thoughts, grief, loss and be any kind of help or just giving them the comfort of recognition.
Most of all it’s going to be a fun, shocking and interesting read for hardcore kids from the early 90ties pre internet era when Gen X took over and a tribute to and about the many friends that are no longer with us.

It’s all written from my point of view and personal experience, joy, shame, and struggles. It does not represent the view of any other member or ex member in Backfire!

I will use this page to keep you updated and promote it when it’s out.

Short statement about all the canceled shows and goodbye weekend:

We are very and sincerely sorry we had to cancel all our remaining shows. Due some personal situations, line up issues, a lack of motivation and unfortunate turn of events. We all wanted to end this different but things don’t always go as planned.

Fortunately we still found a way for a proper farewell and big thank you on november 14th at @helldoradofestival with a special goodbye line up featuring Pat, Igor, Wyb, Dave 3, Giel, Marco, Oeds & Sander. A dream team to give you our all one more time!

Hope to see you there, tickets are going fast.

Backfire! will play their last show ever at Helldorado 2026!

This show will be in a line up with old and current Backfire! members one more time as one family. Your last chance ever to witness the power of BF!

In 1994, four friends from Maastricht started a band with one mission: to play hardcore the way hardcore was meant to be played.

What followed was no hobby—it became an international movement.

Their breakout debut 'Rebel 4 Life' (1996) immediately put Backfire! on the European hardcore map. The band shared stages with legends like Madball and Biohazard and even played at the legendary CBGB in New York’s underground scene.

Backfire! remained uncompromising and relevant. In 2026, after 32 years, the curtains fall on this storied band. Not a quiet exit, but a farewell in style!

Backfire! was never a trend. Backfire! is a pure statement.

Some bands stay with you for a lifetime. For me, that band has always been Backfire!. From the first time I heard their raw, uncompromising sound, they became the undisputed godfathers of Eurocore in my eyes — the band that defined what European hardcore could and should be. Thirty-two years after forming in Maastricht, they have now closed the chapter with The Last Confession, a five-track mini-album released on March 20, 2026, via WTF Records. Holding this final release feels like saying goodbye to old friends who shaped who I am.
