Wow. Thank you, @forbesunder30 for this unexpected honor!

No flowery speeches here—just gratitude for everyone I’ve had the privilege to meet and learn from along the way.

Leaving the clinic to return to Harvard was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made, and moments like this remind me that there’s still a lot of work to be done.

Nonetheless, thank you 🫰🏼

"European Medal of Merit" (Verdienstmedaille Europas)🏅

This is how the head of the EU office in Germany described the award.

After a wonderful retreat with the ApplicAid team, we went to the award ceremony at the Brandenburger Tor and received one of the highest honors in Europe for social impact, awarded by the European Parliament.

Words cannot say how proud I am of our team. 🥹

Thank you to all who made this possible…❤️

Gratitude. 🙏

A few days ago, I became a doctor, passed my last state examination with top marks, and have now also been named one of Germany's top 40 under 40 for my work in the field of educational justice.

I am very grateful for this award, even though I am aware that I still have a long way to go before I reach my forties. When I look at others who have received this award in the past, I have to admit that I am nowhere near the great things that others have achieved.

And then there are all these people who are not on such lists and quietly accomplish so much greater things than I do. Who protest every day for climate, justice, and freedom, who advocate for people in poverty or work in human rights organizations...So many of them under 40 have created more than I have.

So I cannot ignore the irony of such an accolade, even though I am extremely grateful for it. Thus, I see this honor more as both an incentive and encouragement to use the next years to do my part to make our society a bit more just and inclusive for everyone.

Without the support of family, friends and mentors, everything I have achieved so far would never have been possible, and so they deserve my utmost gratitude.

Lastly, just one small thing:
25 under 25, 30 under 30, 40 under 40 (I'm still waiting for the 10 under 10 👶🏻)...
No matter how old, there is no early or late age to stand up for others. There is no sooner or later.
Now is always the right time.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝘃𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝘃𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗜’𝗺 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲.

Nor am I the same person.

When I arrived, I was eager to deepen my understanding of education and healthcare, and to explore ways of improving both to create a fairer, more prosperous society.

As I leave, I will carry with me much more than theories of leadership, change-making and justice. I have discovered how fragile our ideals of universal, quality education and healthcare really are.

I am returning to Germany with a sense of urgency and the grounding truth that meaningful change demands patience and perseverance.

Our character is shaped not just by our choices to succeed, but also by our choices to create something significant.

I’m profoundly grateful for the friendships forged over these two years - relationships that I will treasure for decades to come.

I’m equally thankful for the incredible learning opportunities, both academic and non-academic:
• solving 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 with Prof. Mary Bassett, who led New York’s Health Department through the pandemic
• deepening my 𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 through intimate seminars with Prof. Michael Sandel.
• Tackling 𝗔𝗜’𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 alongside brilliant thinkers like Prof. Jonathan Zittrain
• Diving into 𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 at MIT with Prof. Dava Newman, former NASA deputy administrator
• And all the non-academic adventures: competing at the international Poker Tournament for the Harvard team, learning to sail and fence, and navigating the night sky through a massive telescope, among many other things.

These have been some of the most transformative years of my life...

‘Commencement’ is our final act as Harvard students. The word literally means ‘beginning’ - a reminder that it’s time to apply what we came here to learn.

And that is exactly what I intend to do.

Japan 🇯🇵 (Tokyo, Kyoto, Uji, Nara, Osaka, Hakone)

Three weeks wandering around Japan.

From catching a private Noh play and sitting in on a tea ceremony with a family that pretty much invented it, to chatting with the mayor of Kyoto and multiple Zen meditations with some amazing monks in the most beautiful gardens - plus lots of laughs with friends from all over the world.

Throw in some matcha from Uji, my first World Expo in Osaka, adorable deer in Nara, and soaking in hot springs in Hakone, and you’ve got a trip I’ll never forget.

Loved every moment.

December 2024 - Singapore 🇸🇬, Indonesia 🇮🇩, Thailand 🇹🇭, Cambodia 🇰🇭, Vietnam 🇻🇳

Had a blast traveling through Southeast Asia with a bunch of old and new friends. Pretty sure „Yellow“ is going to be my new go-to karaoke song.

No tips needed.

Summer 2024 - Part 3: Italy (Rome, Trapani, Favignana, Palermo, Montepulciano, Siena, Gracciano, Orvieto, Civita, Florence, Bologna, Verona) 🇮🇹

Living la dolce vita for a whole month 🛵❣️

Exploring Italy, learning the language, getting lost in beautiful cities, lots of sunsets and enjoying the best operas & endless gelato. 🍦

Fell in love with this country and can’t wait to be back soon! 🤌🏼

Summer 2024 - Part 2: Germany (Hamburg ⚓️, Banteln, Berlin) 🇩🇪

Seeing my family, celebrating birthdays and @applicaidorg 5th anniversary, catching up with old friends, being invited by the Health Minister for a 1-on-1 chat, and just enjoying being back in the place I call home.

Blessed. ❤️
