Two years ago, I wasn’t just boarding a plane - I was boarding a dream: to fly on a Boeing 747.

Our aircraft that day was the beautiful D-ABVX, flying the classic route for the type: JFK–FRA.
As @lufthansa begins to retire its 747-400 fleet, this was probably my first and only flight on this icon of the skies.

Victor, X-ray. My forever Queen. ✈️👑

I was sure that when I crossed the Atlantic for the first time, it had to be on board one of the biggest planes ever flown. So, on my way to New York, I travelled on the Airbus A380, D-AIMK from Munich. Since my friends were already there, I was travelling completely alone — except for the other 508 passengers on board. 😄

First, I took the little A319 from Vienna to Munich. Seeing the size of the A380 after that was absolutely dizzying.

At the gate, I was upgraded to Premium Economy. I wasn’t completely happy about it, though, because I had paid good money for a window seat in Economy. Luckily, the stewardess understood my problem and assigned me to window seat 50A, the first window seat on the main deck. Unfortunately, it was too far forward to see the engines.

One of the most spectacular moments came when I opened the window blind and saw another A380 — an Emirates one — on its way to Houston. What a sight! 😍

And, of course, after landing, we parked next to Lufthansa’s B747, D-ABVZ, which had just arrived from Frankfurt.

Not a bad way to cross the Atlantic for the first time. ✈️

Very happy birthday to Lufthansa!
I’ve been lucky enough to fly with them five times—each on a different type of aircraft: A319, A320, A321, A380, and of course the B747, their (and my) Queen of the Skies.
Cheers to the next 100! 🍻
