We just got MIDI output working on Every Division and Duration. You can now improvise polytemporal music and pivot mix with any combination of modular sequencers and MIDI desktop machines. Here I’m using the @intellijel Metropolis and @twohpmodular Pluck for the melody and the @e_licktronic NAVA 909. Incredibly proud of @charlottedewittemusic and her debut album.

Charlotte approached me through @baem.studio seeking to increase her confidence with production tools, accelerate her creative process, and perfect her mixdown techniques.

Over the course of an intense semester, she proved to be a singularly outstanding student. In between the demands of a punishing touring schedule, she put in the work, delivered the homework, reached and surpassed her goals.

I am so proud to see the results of her hard work reflected in the thundering arc of solo and collaborative tracks that compose Charlotte de Witte.

Bravo Charlotte! Thank you for the trust! taken in Berlin by @baem.studio

@nicolasbougaieff returns to the @clrofficial Podcast with a one-hour pivot mix.

“Relativity 1 is my first full-length pivot mix. Pivot mixing is a DJ technique that uses carefully designed loops as bridges between tracks with completely different BPMs. One thing I love about the technique is that I can smoothly mix totally different vibes. I really like how it feels to go on a bpm adventure. I’m so happy to have the opportunity to share my explorations on the legendary CLR Podcast series!” Nicolas Bougaïeff 🎙️

It is a pleasure to welcome Nicolas back to the podcast with this incredible hour of techno, built around his use of pivot mixing. His ability to move between BPMs seamlessly makes for a really dynamic and engaging listen—one we’re excited to share with you.

Head to our Soundcloud, Mixcloud, and YouTube for the full mix.

Tuplet Techno creates polytemporality. Discover how the 7:5 tuplet in ‘Primal Express’ generates a new grid at 98 bpm, while the rest of the track plays at 140 bpm. ‘Primal Express’ is out now via @novamute_

Pivot mixing between @shlomiaber ‘Complex’ at 133 bpm and @dannywabbit ‘Girl Scout Cookies’ at 152 bpm. The ratio between the BPMs is 7:8. A pivot is introduced as a white noise percussion from the modular synth. The pivot sounds like a 7/16 loop at 133 bpm, and like a 2/4 loop at 152.bpm

Pivot mixing lets you mix different bpm around a common loop. The pivot loop here is first interpreted as a 3 beat loop at 126 bpm, and then as a 3.5 beat loop at 147 bpm.

Tracks featured:
- ‘Waterfall’ by @rrose1921
- ‘Forbidden’ by @toobris
- ‘City Flex’ by @marilao3

Equipment used: @allenandheath mixer, @bugbrand_bristol PTDelay, @ableton Live
