The Grimmspeed short throw shifter is the newest addition to my 2018 STI. After 6 years of ownership, I became tired of the OEM Subaru short throw STI shifter. It always felt loose, sloppy, and somewhat disconnected from the vehicle. As an owner of Subaruโ€™s performance based car, I wanted a strong, rigid, and precisely made part that actually made me feel connected to the vehicle. This is why I went ahead and Installed the Grimmspeed short throw shifter. โ€ข There were a few major things that stood out to me that I loved when comparing to other brands who also make short shifters for these cars. For starts, you can feel everything mechanically that is going on, it feels extremely rigid and is clearly ready to take a beating without any form of failure. Secondly, there are two main adjustment points throughout the Grimmspeed shifter arm assembly which will help you dial in the length of throw you are looking for. (Throw reduction is adjustable from 0% to 26.3%, and the shift knob height can be dialed in from +0.3โ€ to -1.0โ€ vs stock) I decided to dial mine to where the throw is not ridiculously short. I wanted a comfortable median that was just a smidge shorter than the stock throw. Lastly, the craftsmanship, fitment, and design. This shifter is a true drop-in part. There is no need for any form of modification during the installation process which is always a huge plus. Grimmspeed also went the extra mile to make sure they were providing top of the line hardware and bearings. They are the only brand offering a true drop-in STI short throw shifter with sealed Enduro MAX ball bearings which are designed to handle heavy pivoting loads with maximum strength and precision. (35โ€“40% more load capacity than traditional radial bearings and has full-contact, double-lip labyrinth seals to keep out grit and grime) I canโ€™t say I am surprised that Grimmspeed released another part for the STI that just simply checks every single box. โ€ข Thank you Grimmspeed! The 2025 season unfortunately comes to an end. The car is now back in storage and being prepared for many new additions.
