POSTS STORIES REELS

Showing off one of my favorite leads & favorite bodysuits by @micuerpoonline 💃🏽🕺🏻

Loveeeee me a lead who makes me feel safe, seen and respected! 👏🏼💚👏🏼💚✨🙂‍↔️

My green flags:

1. Goes slow / takes their time at first BEFORE they go all out or try crazy moves to gauge your connection. They meet you at your level! 👌🏼

2. Leave smiles on their follow’s faces after they dance together, me next please! 😇

3. Apologizes when they’re offbeat or giving an unclear signal to follow. Ok Self aware king!🤴🏻

4. Reassures you it’s ok if you miss a signal, fall offbeat or mess up in general. 🫶🏼

5. Lets it go if you miss the signal twice in a row & moves on without shaming you!! Thank you. 😮‍💨

6. Matching your energy and being a safe space to explore creativity in the dance. 🪩

7. Hits all the beats and hypes you up if you hit all the beats. Nothing tops being in sync & on the same page👾

8. Does not make you do body rolls to traditional bachata. 🙌🏼

9. Pays attention to you & protects you from other dancers bumping into you! 🥹

10. Smells good. 🙏🏼🙂‍↕️

Thank you @doctorontheplane for always being a lead I can count on for these things & all the good vibes. 🤗 @bachatamariposa you taught him well hehe! 😉

#6 is the WORST… If he does any of these at any point, he will not be catching a dance with me. 🏃🏽‍♀️🚩

1. Negotiating or questioning your “No” after you decline a dance. Tf? No is a complete sentence 🥴 You do not owe anyone a dance, if it’s not a consensual enthusiastic yes, it’s a no, period.

2. Putting you in closed position after you said you prefer not to be super close (what if you’re sick? Injured? Or more often just super sweaty/hot?) 🙅🏻‍♀️

3. Cockily bragging about how long they’ve been dancing / not humble, while providing unclear signals & then getting frustrated about it with you 🤐 boy bye!

4. Similar to No. 3, a lack of accountability when they’re off rhythm then being condescending to you about it 🫪

5. Being butthurt if you say no to them & then saying yes to dance with someone else. We all have free will! It could be an instructor or out of town visitor that finally asked you to dance & you don’t want to miss your chance & they can always just ask someone else. 👾

6. He tries to kiss you on the dance floor. 🤮 Straight up get away from him MID-DANCE if that was not consensual!!!!

As a protective older sister, these are my biggest warnings for my younger sister and any new dancer entering the dance scene so y’all know it’s ok to avoid anyone who does this to you.

Remember, if he isn’t considerate about your comfort, leave. We are out for a good time, not to be coerced, talked down to, or forced to do anything we don’t want to do 👊🏼

What’s something that you wish you could warn your younger sister or even your newbie dancer self about?

DISCLAIMER: the gentleman in this video was exactly that, a gentleman. Scribbled his face out of courtesy bc I do not know him but he handled my no gracefully. So he was actually a green flag & we ended up dancing later 🫶🏼

How do you know if you found your girls? 👯‍♀️ Each of these women helped me realize some crucial lessons about true friendship.

1. They will never try to “humble” you or put you down to make themselves feel superior. Backhanded compliments are a huge red flag 🚩

2. They will want to protect & restore your peace if you feel vulnerable or down. Why would someone who cares about you try to make a situation worse? Sabotage is another 🚩🚩

3. They will genuinely want to see you win & cheer you on too. If you tell someone good news & they seem bothered or bitter? That is not your friend 🚩🚩🚩❌

I’ve had to learn these the hard way & have had to distance myself from people I was once close with. It’s painful, but knowing I haven’t even met everyone who will choose to cherish me with love & respect helps me keep going.. I’ve already made new friends on my current dance team❤️‍🩹❤️‍🔥

One of my favorite things to do to challenge my brain & keep training interesting. 🔥✨👾

Hi, I’m Nayi 🌸 I’m the latin dance teaching assistant for @encantolatinoatl 🌺 sharing my journey in becoming a dance teacher someday. 📹

These are some of the syllabus drill moves we teach as fundamentals. Do you recognize any of these? Do you call them different names? Do you have a favorite? 🤭

How often do you practice bachata outside of dance class?

Finding your first dance community can take a minute… it took me a little over a year before I landed somewhere that felt right.

Just keep showing up & I promise it will all be so worth it. No need to rush the process🤍

Did you drag someone along to your first dance class, or brave it solo? 👀

Tag the friend who got you into dancing 😸 Make their day!
