I recently completed some improved builds of my Petite Onken styled 12” speakers. I redesigned some elements of the cabinet from the first build, and I worked with @gregnunnhome to build the cabinets. One pair he finished in a white oak veneer which I am very pleased with the results. I am using an Ojas 1211 horn from @Devonojas on this pair, along with a JBL St450 super tweeter.

I have also been fortunate enough to begin further experimentation with a pair of 808 multicellular horn from @lycan3r and a tractix horn form @iwan.arjanto

I’ve been studying the work of @je2a3 and others from Sound Practices to begin experimenting with first order crossover networks which I have also been able to integrate into these builds. With the current network, I am crossover over around ~2KHz with a Jantzen Audio inductor for the low pass filter to the woofer and a @jupitercondenser paper and wax capacitor for the high pass filter to the compression driver. I used 1.5uF vintage Soviet military K75 paper in oil capacitors for the crossover to the super tweeters.

I plan to experiment with lower crossover points with some Altec 806 drivers I recently acquired from @ictwoody by @bailey.hamrick_

I picked up Silver Street by @jacobwendtmusic a few weeks ago from @commonwave_hifi and I’ve been enjoying it a lot!

It is being played back by a Denon 103R moving coil cartridge in the new Ojas head shell on my DV-505 tonearm. I am also using the step up transformers of @devonojas. The phono stage is my diy build of the Marantz 7 phono stage and the amplifier is a simple class D amplifier.

The speakers are a further rendition on my Petite Onken inspired cabinets. @gregnunnhome built these cabinets and finished them with a beautiful white oak veneer. This version features a simple first order crossover network I have been fine tuning utilizing paper and wax capacitors from @jupitercondenser for the high pass filter. The compression driver is horn loaded by an Ojas 1211 horn. I also incorporated a JBL St450 super tweeter that is crossed over with a 1.5uF vintage Soviet military K75 paper in oil capacitor. by @bailey.hamrick_

Gramophone system incorporating the Technics SL1200-MK5 motor drive control circuit. I put the control interface in a separate enclosure which utilizes a microcontroller to drive the front panel interface. The plinth is 6 layers of Baltic Birch plywood inspired by some of the work by @devonojas. I had many conversations with @mcrushing over this design, and his knowledge was extremely helpful.
At the start of this project, I had a conversation with @je2a3 over tonearms, and he connected me with @rcanut1 who happened to be selling an Alfred Bokrand AB-309 tonearm. After purchasing the arm, we had a phone call, and John shared bits of stories and wisdom that span decades. thank you John! The second tonearm is a vintage Dynavector DV-505, which is another component I have followed for some time. I feel very lucky to be the steward of this iconic piece of gear and history. The phono cables are handmade by @prospercables and @doghatindustries. I could not be more happy with their craftsmanship. The cables incorporate the Switchcraft 3502A connectors to match my @devonojas interconnects in the rest of my system. by @bailey.hamrick_

Simple 45/2A3 triode amplifier based on a design from @je2a3. I incorporated a delayed B+ switch that I read about in sound practices volume 2, issue 1. The amplifier also includes 2 vintage Western Electric type 19 resistor dated to 1967. I learned about these resistors through @devonojas’s work. The output transformers are hand wound Hashimoto transformers from Japan. I used Vitamin Q capacitors from @jupitercondenser to couple the output of the 6SL7 driver stage with the 45/2A3. All of my operating points are within 1% of @je2a3’s design, and I am very pleased with its sound. by @bailey.hamrick_
