“Some villages hold a love that big cities can’t imagine. You can find the biggest hearts in the smallest villages.” One from the archives 🇲🇼 A few snippets from a special project filmed for an NGO up in Malawi last year 🌞 If you know me, you’ll know I do a lot of work within the commercial space. But despite that, my true passion and favourite projects lie in wildlife, conservation, culture and NGOs. This was exactly that kind of project - we aimed to create a piece about a new NGO building a well in a small village in Southern Malawi (Katore Village), one that could assist in fundraising further down the line. These projects hold a lot within them, and finding the balance between emotion and positivity can be difficult when you’re trying to appeal to donors and remain ethical in representing the community. Multiple versions later, I believe we found the sweet spot that one always chases. Gaining the trust of communities, working collaboratively with those on the ground and ultimately pushing a message to drive positive change will forever spark projects full of passion. After all, I got into this industry because I believed film could be a phenomenal vehicle for positive change. Huge thanks to @eladbarzilay_ and @danielrotstein for making this happen! A huge shoutout to the wonderful community of Cape Maclear and Katore Village. by @bailey_pickford

I’ve always found something weirdly special about black and white film. From the feeling of nostalgia all the way to how there’s no option to go back to colour as otherwise would be the case. Anyways, I spent a week living with a wonderful family in Kyrgyzstan that came from generations of nomadic Saalbuurun and Berkutchi (Eagle Hunting) culture. I was there to film a mini doc, a tough filming environment (especially due to the language barriers and many more obstacles) but a hugely special travel experience. There’s a unique feeling when you’re unable to speak the same language but build a rapport regardless. Gaining insight into someone’s life that is wildly different from yours, as the age old saying goes - to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes. A huge thank you to @kyrgyz_go_travel @kylym_tourism for having us and making this project possible 🫶🏼🦅 by @bailey_pickford
To sharing a bit more of life and what goes on behind the scenes x I’ve always tossed and turned with the idea of posting on Instagram, especially outside of work (which I barely ever did anyway). But I’ve always wanted to be able to post just for myself, not with others in mind, and without feeling any sense of judgement attached to it. Be it work or just the fun / adventures outside of it. Working in film, you often feel like you have to put out polished edits shot on the big camera. But honestly, that’s not the case - I think the goal is just to have fun with it regardless, whether it’s an average phone clip or a project that means something to you. So here’s to doing a little more of that, and caring a little less about whether it “matters.” After all, social media never really gives us true insight into who someone is - and if you think it does? A couple of weeks ago, I booked a last-minute flight to Kyrgyzstan. I didn’t have much of a plan aside from meeting up with a friend, but I did have two goals: 1 – To do a decent mission through the mountains, either on foot or horseback, to ultimately challenge myself a bit. 2 – To film a project I’ve been wanting to do for a while (more on this later) ;) When we landed, we made a plan as we went, and after a day or two of deliberating, we found ourselves missioning out to a remote village where the trailhead for the Ak-Suu Traverse was. These are the film photos from that traverse, with a few notes here and there :) by @bailey_pickford
