Paddle Rose Paddle πŸ“ πŸŒΉπŸ“

Countless attempts went into practicing this flow but the first send was desperate. I owed it to myself to repeat it even better and when I did it felt that much more amazing.

An awesome @bridgesrockgym comp bloc I coset w/ @fakebouldersrealproblems. 🫰

Maybe one day we can set an entirely coordinated flow across the whole west wall. 😝

Loved the toehooks, bicycles, and handfoot matches on positive holds. The sequence is fun, becomes flowy, but is still techy. Such a great bloc to practice those moves and it ramps up just enough for those breaking into the circuit to project. Go give this @daviddunlapp topout banger some goes yo! πŸ’₯

Slow Lockoff Project 🟣 @bridgesrockgym

Seshing w/my buddies at Benchie got me real warmed up to try my project at Bridges. Everything before the finish was my style on some of my favorite holds but the last move really exposed my weaknesses and reminded me how to refocus my efforts.

Ever since my first sesh, I kept punting off the finish. Several attempts I kept bumping into the downclimb jugs with my left elbow or knee. Sometimes I could reach the hold but wasn't able to match. The body position for the move to the top felt pretty scrunched with the high left foot but I also couldn't fully weight it because it was a slippery sloper. I thought dodging the downclimbs successfully would have been the send but doing that just pushed my hips out so I would still fall. For too many attempts I leaned into my frustration that used the downclimbs as an excuse for all the punting I did.

What I needed to focus on was actually locking off with control. I reminded myself to execute the move and not focus on the consequences of my previous attempts. Learning how to identify my own BS and cutting it out is a mental game I have to practice more. I would be a better climber if my mental game was in the right place more often. It took longer than expected, but when I finally sent I knew it was because I learned my lesson. Thanks for the tryhard bloc @fakebouldersrealproblems. πŸ™

@benchmarkberkeley Send Train πŸš‚

It's been a while since @ptr.sbo , @eda.climbs , and I triple sent something closer to our limit indoors. We should try the sit sometime on this sick @molecahler bloc.

Where others made a big cross to the sloper jug and quickly matched or kept the pommel tension, I found a sneaky toehook beneath the volume instead. It greatly reduced any momentum that would otherwise require me to engage my shoulders to sustain a cutloose. If anyone else tries this beta for that crux let me know if it feels like a beta break.

Good ol' routesetting nostalgia. I think this was supposed to be a purple or black circuit. 🀷

Rock climbing into comp climbing. ✨

Fun sequences and mix of styles on this that were approachable for me. Wanted to learn to top without using the lip arete at the end but didn't have enough time.

Getting wrecked from falling on compy stuff lately so it feels nice to slow things down on this bloc. I enjoy the variety of holds, how careful the climber has to match and hold the volumes, while balancing on some far or high feet. Fun evening sesh w/ @ptr.sbo @uncover___light @austinclimbsweird @candynslife @eda.climbs ! 😁

Also Raj Cafe is bomb. If you want just a bit of kick to your entrees try "medium +". When ordering enough, they may give complementary chai tea and rice puddings. πŸ˜‹

Belly of the Beast 3.0

Kinda reinjured my right hamstring on a heelhook and bad fall but it is what it is. Still got some cool sends in and the finals were dope. My climbing ability feels like it's at an all time low and that's surprising because I thought it couldn't get any worse than last summer after I gained weight. Catching up to my strong point from 2024 seems so far now but I'll figure it out. I still want to participate in more comps and improve my indoor skillset.

Spicy Sloper Blocs 🌢️ @corner_bouldering

Never perched such a delicate heelhook + toehook bicycle to match a sloper finish before. Usually it's just a toehook that positions my center line below a sloper if I can't perch over my toes. Thankfully, it didn't hurt my glute like farther heelhooks would.

Corner is a softer chain of the bouldering gyms I checked out in Taiwan but every visit was full of stoke. I dig the 4 point starts and there's lots of creative sets here that allow for skill expression and complex routereading for a small space with shorter walls. The kneebars and footwork on this were so fun and it's impressive how playful they can be but still demand intent. Just count how many moves I adjusted to through the mirrored flatholds! Cruxing the match for the top was diabolical after a fun sequence and makes for a solid indoor V6.

A nice memory seshing with @h_is_for_homer πŸ™‚

4 Sesh Project ❀️‍πŸ”₯ @bridgesrockgym

This red circuit got me good ever since the first sesh. I was naive when I thought that this would be the most approachable one. It has some jugs, fewer holds, and even started in the middle of the cave but each sesh required me to lock in more than the last.

My body felt so unsteady through the middle volume. Gripping those volume holds and expecting to move onto the next position just felt too strong. Instead, I learned how to recycle those holds to optimize my body position where I lacked grip strength. Definitely a more ticky tacky sequence but finally catching the left pinch out of the cave made it all worth it. After all that the moves barely let up to the top out though, especially the high left heel swap to a toe down. I'll have to practice more to repeat it with flow and less moves but this was a proud send!

Missed these fun challenging sets from @elliot.shindo! πŸ˜†
