POSTS STORIES REELS

It’s always rewarding to see people recognised by the Asian Football Awards go on to achieve great things in the industry. @seemajaswal is a fantastic example of that…

Seema received our Media Award back in 2017 and has remained a wonderful supporter of the Asian Football Awards ever since.

Through her work across the Premier League, Champions League and major international sporting events, Seema has built an impressive career in sports broadcasting. Her achievements are particularly significant in an industry where South Asian representation, especially among women, has historically been limited..

One of the most rewarding aspects of the awards is seeing our alumni continue to progress, make their mark and inspire others along the way.

It was lovely to have Seema join us again at this year’s awards. Her continued support is genuinely appreciated..

Two legendary vocalists in one shot!

AS Kang and Sardara S Gill of Apna Sangeet. Two artists I’ve admired for decades, whose contributions to UK Bhangra have been immense.

As a lifelong UK Bhangra fan, I’ve got most of their albums on vinyl. It was a real pleasure chatting with them at #BAMFA last week, and of course, I couldn’t resist getting a picture..

True pioneers of UK Bhangra…

I first came across @ohdhami a few years ago through his lyrics on @realmanisingh track ‘Up in Smoke’. Great to hear him stepping into the spotlight with his own Punjabi releases more recently.

A talented lyricist with the vocals to match. A great combination, especially for the UK Bhangra scene!

Good to chat with him at the @britasiatv #BAMFA last week..

A moving visit to The Last Princesses of Punjab exhibition at Kensington Palace. A story of royalty, injustice, courage and a family whose history is deeply intertwined with Britain.

At its heart is Princess Sophia Duleep Singh, granddaughter of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, goddaughter of Queen Victoria and a courageous campaigner in the suffragette movement. She used her position to fight for women’s right to vote.

Her story is shaped by extraordinary women. Her grandmother, Maharani Jind Kaur, was imprisoned and separated from her young son after the British conquest of Punjab. Her mother, Maharani Bamba, experienced displacement and tragedy. Her sisters, Catherine and Bamba, each had remarkable lives. And Queen Victoria’s relationship with the family reveals the contradictions of empire.

Behind the royal portraits is the painful history of a family stripped of its kingdom, wealth and identity under British rule. Yet these women showed remarkable resilience.

As someone proud of both my Sikh Punjabi roots and my British identity, this exhibition has real personal meaning.

It is encouraging to see our shared history coming to light, thanks to the fantastic research of historians who have devoted themselves to uncovering these stories.

History isn’t always comfortable, nor should it be. We cannot celebrate Britain’s past without acknowledging its injustices. These stories belong in our wider national history, not hidden away or reduced to footnotes.

The exhibition is thoughtfully laid out, with fascinating artefacts. Great to see pieces from the collections of @davinder.s.toor and @peter.bance on display.

Exhibitions like this matter. They educate, challenge perceptions and help future generations understand our shared past. We must support them.

I encourage everyone, whatever your background, to visit before it closes on 8 November.

This is Sikh history. Punjabi history. And British history too.

The future of UK Bhangra is looking bright, especially with talents like @rajsinghayre @desifrenzy @shxxnmusic producing some great music and bringing fresh energy to the scene.

Great to meet Raj at the @britasiatv #BAMFA Awards in London on Friday evening. He’s made quite an impression since bursting onto the scene, and I’m particularly impressed by his Punjabi vocals and distinctive sound.

Exciting times ahead for UK Bhangra!

A Punjabi artist I’ve admired for a few years now. A real pleasure to meet @iharkiratsangha at the #BAMFA @britasiatv awards in #London last week.

Harkirat has a distinctive voice, and the way he combines it with polished, contemporary production gives his music a sound that really stands out. Looking forward to seeing his journey continue..
