Foreverrrrr one of my favorite places is this gorgeous country and for some reason, we always make it here in autumn which gives such a different vibe with the colors changing!

I know many visitors dont usually put it on the list but I think it’s definitely worth the stop. 💙

🍝 my friends have been doing a balkan tour and were not feeling like ćevapi (broke my heart cause my favorite ćevapi is here!) butttt we were super pleasantly surprised to find @gusto.travnik where they served homemade pizza and pasta! Food, place and service was 10/10 🌟

Meeting a few snajkas here next month? What do you say? 🫶🏽

👀 balkan things, you wouldn’t understand

This was at our Slava in banja luka early this year. If you don’t know what slava is, it’s the day an orthodox family celebrates its patron saint and it means feeding a loooot of people, so there were a lot of dishes.
my husband’s tetka took one look at them and started washing every plate, glass and pot by hand and then she rinsed them, only then let me put them in the dishwasher.

I don’t dare to ask why, all I know is that the dishwasher is not to be trusted... i’m rarely trusted with it! 🤪

📌PLACES WE ATE AT this year in the Balkans (and loved!)

back when we were flying, we’d land somewhere new and the first thing we’d look for wasn’t the sights, it was the food. put us at the same table and you can imagine how much of our life revolves around eating well.

Now there are three of us at that table. Vera loves trying new things too and her absolute favorite is seafood, which honestly makes us so happy because we love it just as much.

What we love most about living in the balkans is how much the food changes from place to place, a couple of hours of driving and it’s a whole new menu and completely different flavors.

So here are some of the places we ate at this year that we loved and would go back to in a heartbeat.

We’d love to go to macedonia 🇲🇰 soon and try the food there and eat more slovenian 🇸🇮 food too, as for croatia 🇭🇷 , most of the time we end up in a hotel where the food is included, so we know we’re missing out!!!!

mi putujemo kroz hranu. oduvijek.
dok smo letjeli, čim bismo sletjeli negdje novo, prvo što bismo tražili nisu bile znamenitosti, nego hrana. a kad nas dvoje sjednemo za isti sto, jasno je koliko se kod nas sve vrti oko dobre hrane.
sada nas je troje za tim stolom. i vera voli da proba svašta, a najviše voli morske plodove, što nas baš raduje jer ih i mi obožavamo.
ono što najviše volimo kod života na balkanu je koliko se hrana mijenja od mjesta do mjesta. par sati vožnje i već je potpuno novi meni i sasvim drugi ukusi.
evo mjesta u kojima smo jeli ove godine, koja smo zavoljeli i u koja bismo se odmah vratili.
voljeli bismo da uskoro odemo u makedoniju i probamo tamošnju hranu, a i da probamo više slovenačke hrane. što se tiče hrvatske, uglavnom odsjednemo u hotelu gdje je hrana uključena, pa znamo da dosta propuštamo.

The challenge I never saw coming in my life! 🤪

Sure, I may have imagined and thought about what life would look like when I’d become a mother but that’s something we will never know until we’re living it but this….

Never in a million years! That life would find me living motherhood in a place where they (mostly) use an alphabet that really puts me to the test.

This video is from this past winter when Vera discovered the city biblioteka and became obsessed with books and I was all game for reading but all the once she’d picked were in Cyrilic! 🥹

Then, with a few trips to Spain and Argentina and a few visitor in Banja Luka, we started creating our book library in Spanish at home and I cannot explain how much that means to me! And what a pleasure it is to read now. 🤭

I think this stage was an eye opener for what it’s coming towards my way in trying to keep my language, culture and identity alive at home and in her.

And if resources are not there yet why not create them? I lose myself thinking about hosting Spanish speaking workshops for kids where Vera can explore that part of herself as well as books, movies, activities, anything.

✨There is no limit when there’s will! ✨

Louder for the mother in laws in the back! 🙌

I hear sooooo many stories about this relationship and it can get complicated as we are both playing important roles in the same man’s life… and add culture to that.

I consider myself a very fortunate snajka! 💖 guess what? my mom and my mother in law have the same name and I dont think that’s a coincidence. ✨

Balkanski zet ocenjuje argentinska jela 👀🇦🇷

Malo konteksta za naše ljude: Argentina je imala milione Italijana i Španaca koji su stigli tamo krajem 19. i početkom 20. veka i to se može videti u njihovoj hrani. Mi balkanci smo veoma ponosni na našu hranu, ali zemlja moje žene je takođe među njima.

matambre a la pizza
tanko goveđe meso, razvučeno i preliveno kao pica. italija i argentinski roštilj dobili su dijete i ja bih da ga usvojim.

panqueque con dulce de leche
ovo je palačinka, samo je nutelu zamijenilo nešto bolje. izvini, nutela.

fernet con coca
italijanski biljni liker potopljen u koka-kolu. argentinci piju više ferneta od bilo koga na svijetu. ali ja sam jägermeister lik. izvinite.

alfajores
dva keksa, dulce de leche u sredini, čokolada spolja. opasno ih je držati u kući.

guiso de lentejas
dobro varivo od sočiva. ali ja sam ipak za grah, odnosno pasulj.

pollo al disco
piletina pečena na vatri, na starom disku od pluga. gaučo stil.

helado
u argentini se sladoled jede cijele godine i možeš ga naručiti bilo kad. sladoledžinice su uvijek otvorene.

empanadas
latinska amerika ima razne vrste empanada, ali moram reći da je argentinska, criolla, nevjerovatna.

zanatsko pivo
nisam pivopija, ali tamo imaju odličnu kulturu zanatskog piva. uz ovu vera ipu smo nazdravili kad smo (u argentini) saznali da čekamo djevojčicu. ime smo već bili izabrali!

Evo mojih ocena, neke bi mogle da povrede i izazovu dramu kod kuće.

I got to be a telenovela actress for a day!!! 🎬 this special project with @cinema_parallels_ is slowly taking shape and i cannot wait for the final outcome!!!

if you’ve caught it in some of our reels, acting is a frustrated passion of mine so being in the studio, in front of the camera, actually doing the thing, was pure joy.

It’s about the connection between Latin America and The Balkans through TELENOVELAS (amongst other wonderful things).

But wow… what i did not expect was how drained i’d feel after. like, genuinely wiped. Actors, i have a whole new respect for you. 🫶🏽

getting home, wiping off all that makeup, and doing a proper haircare routine after the gel and hairspray and everything else I did to my hair felt like heaven.

more coming soon and i think you’re going to love this one 🎥

❤️Bila sam glumica u TELENOVELA , jedan dan!!! 🎬 ovaj poseban projekat sa @cinema_parallels_ polako dobija oblik i jedva čekam da vidim finalni rezultat!!!

ako ste primetili u nekim našim rilsovima, glumu sam oduvek tajno volela, pa je snimanje u studiju, pred kamerom, zaista raditi to, bilo čisto zadovoljstvo.

radi se o tome kako su Latinska Amerika i Balkan povezani preko TELENOVELA (pored mnogo drugih divnih stvari).

ono što nisam očekivala je koliko ću biti iscrpljena posle. ozbiljno, kao da me je pregazio kamion. glumci, imam sad potpuno novo poštovanje prema vama.

kad sam stigla kući, skinula svu šminku i uradila pravu negu za kosu posle gela, laka za kosu i svega što sam radila sa kosom osećala sam se kao u raju.

uskoro stiže još, i mislim da će vam se ovo jako svideti 🎥 by @balkatinos
