A wedding where every detail felt like it belonged exactly where it was.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
From the sculptural florals to the tables set beneath the oaks, every corner of Leksi & Gavin’s wedding was thoughtfully considered. And then there was this cake ✨ equal parts art and dessert, created by the incredibly talented @ballerina_baker.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s always a joy to photograph celebrations where beautiful design never overshadows what the day is truly about. It simply becomes part of the story. 🤍

Being a performing artist is, in so many ways, a full-time endeavor, especially in a field as physically demanding as dance. But the vast majority of American companies don’t offer 52-week contracts.

Dancers often have substantial layoffs throughout the year, including longer stretches during the summer. While staying in shape is a given, what else to do with the offseason is often less defined.

Some use summer breaks as opportunities to try jobs outside of dance. Whether driven by financial necessity or the desire for extra pocket money, dancers can gain experience that can help them grow as artists and people.

Some celebrations feel especially meaningful—this surprise birthday party for Sarah is one of them.

Sarah is the doctor who delivered all three of my children. What began as a doctor-patient relationship between her and my wife eventually grew into a friendship between our families built on a shared love of beauty, gathering people together, and celebrating life’s big and small moments.

Several months ago, her husband Shahram called and asked if I’d help him plan a surprise party for her 50th birthday. He loves his wife deeply and knows her incredibly well. His vision was “Spring in Paris”—beautiful and abundant flowers, delicious food, Parisian music, Champagne and thoughtful details he knew would make Sarah feel celebrated. From there, he trusted me completely and gave me the freedom to just create.

Watching Sarah walk into a room filled with the people who love her most was one of those moments I’ll never forget. The surprise. The joy. The laughter. It all felt like a dream.

And somewhere in the middle of that evening, I was reminded why I started my company in the first place…

Not just to design beautiful events, but to create moments that make people feel deeply loved, seen, and celebrated.

Happy 50th, Sarah. What a gift it was to celebrate you the way you have celebrated so many others throughout your life.

Can’t believe this was 1 year ago!

I’m often asked 3 questions:
1. How do you travel with a cake?
2. Do you get nervous?
3. Have you had any catastrophes?

This cake speaks to the second question - do you get nervous? I don’t often get nervous, perhaps that’s years of being a professional ballerina and learning to deal with high stress, or perhaps just practice and a lot traveling with cakes. However, this cake was easily my most nerve racking delivery. There were a lot of variables that could have gone wrong and if any one of them were to go wrong, it would have been hard to adjust. In particular, that sugar formation on the front of the cake was so delicate. It took me weeks to make and was all one piece. If it would have cracked or broken there would have been no way to repair it or make a new one! I hand carried on a spare just in case!! Let’s just say that I held my breath for the 2 hour long drive to the venue on the bumpy roads in Mexico 😳

Grateful nothing went wrong, and as always, grateful for @sinclairandmoore entrusting me with his vision! Every detail was perfection!!

A wedding that felt like stepping into a story…

Set along the banks of the river in the outskirts of Charleston, and inspired by the timeless romance of Pride & Prejudice… every detail held a quiet elegance, a softness, and a sense of meaning that unfolded so beautifully throughout the day.

But more than anything, this celebration reflected her… a bride full of joy, kindness, and warmth- the kind that leaves a lasting impression on everyone she meets.

It has been such a gift to walk alongside her family over the past year, planning, dreaming, designing and bringing this vision to life. Watching it all come together and spending the week at @riveroakscharleston is something I’ll hold with me for a long time.

Forever grateful for this experience and the opportunity to serve and create for clients like this.

@lafetefloral made my dreams come true and asked me to create a Swan Lake inspired cake for one of her beautiful brides, @oliviaswannie. It was always one of my favorite ballets to dance. Here’s a bit of the process! Yes, each one of those feathers was cut by hand. So much detail goes into every cake and I’m grateful for each cake I get to create 🤍

Revisiting timeless traditions of the past. This is what every day as a ballerina consists of. Refining the basics of an art form that began in the 15th century, striving for perfection, though it is never attainable. It was this challenge that drove me to the studio everyday for hours. I loved the constant challenge. This cake brought me back to those same emotions.

@sinclairandmoore came to me and said he wanted to do something from the 1920’s. Columns began in the 1920’s and were really all the rage till the 1990’s. But many of the cakes were made with the plastic columns…not to put down the plastic columns, but I really don’t care for them. I wanted elegant, elevated, timeless - as all of Steve’s designs so beautifully articulate. This one was a puzzle to figure out. After many trials and errors, I ended up making my own wooden base, then covering in fondant and creating my own custom column molds. It was about a 2 month process of trial and error.

When Steve sent me these pictures from @Aliciaann_daw tears welled in my eyes. I’m so grateful she was able to photograph it and perfectly convey everything I hoped it would. It stands the test of time, but brings fresh life to traditions of the past.

Thanks for making it happen @sinclairandmoore! Forever grateful for your creative partnership.

Spent the week with @thehybridco creating a shoot for the attendees to capture and interpret through their own lens.

My inspiration was rooted in classic design and timeless restraint with a subtle nod to the past… like the use of Roman columns separating tiers on the wedding cake, a detail I haven’t used in more than twenty years, but loved revisiting. Don’t miss those hand-made pillars Jordan from @ballerina_baker created out of sugar for this cake.

Design evolves, but classic endures.

Grateful for my All-Star vendor team that always shows up for me no matter where the destination takes us.
