What do ballet and literacy have in common? More than you might think!

In the latest edition of Notes From Backstage, we're welcoming guest author Debbi Arseneaux, Director of Arts and Literacy Integration at The Learning Alliance, to share the story behind one of Ballet Vero Beach's most impactful community partnerships.

Debbi reflects on how a shared vision for arts education and literacy brought BVB and The Learning Alliance together to create Stage to Page, an innovative program that connects ballet with classroom learning. Through this collaboration, students across Indian River County discover how movement and storytelling can deepen comprehension, spark creativity, and bring learning to life.

📚Literacy leaps to life with Stage to Page!

At Ballet Vero Beach, we believe the arts can do more than inspire. They can help transform how children learn.

Through Stage to Page, we partner with The Learning Alliance and the School District of Indian River County to bring high-quality performing arts experiences and arts-integrated engagement to students, supporting our community’s efforts to address early literacy.

Our 2026–2027 series invites local students to experience the magic of live ballet through three productions:

🍂 The Four Seasons — November 3 | 5th Grade
🔥 Firebird — November 5 | 3rd Grade
👑 The Sleeping Princess — February 26 | 1st Grade

Each performance gives students the chance to experience storytelling through movement, music, and the performing arts.

Stage to Page is free for all Indian River County public, private, charter, and homeschool students, with transportation scholarships available on a first-come, first-served basis. The program regularly serves between 1,500 and 2,000 students each school year. Our goal is to reach every first, third, and fifth-grader in the district each year.

We’re proud to collaborate with community partners to expand access to the arts and help literacy leap to life for the next generation. ❤️

Ballet Vero Beach is thrilled to continue our First Steps program in partnership with @childcareresourcesir ⭐️

Through First Steps, BVB offers a specialized dance initiative for children ages 0–5 that builds gross motor skills, coordination, balance, and social-emotional development through movement.

This program provides developmentally appropriate movement education for young children, from infants to pre-kindergarten.

We are grateful to Childcare Resources of Indian River County for continuing to support opportunities that nurture the whole child and bring artistic experiences to our youngest community members.

✨ Meet Bella Brady! ✨

Ballet Vero Beach's final new Fellow joining us for the 2026–2027 season as part of our Fellowship Initiative for Dancers!

Originally from the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, Bella trained at Dance Center Evanston, Interlochen Arts Academy under the direction of Joseph Morrissey, and Boston Conservatory at Berklee in its BFA Contemporary Dance Program.

Bella is currently pursuing an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration at Indian River State College while continuing her professional development with Ballet Vero Beach.

For Bella, the opportunity to attend school for dance helped make a career in the art form feel possible. She credits her family's unwavering support of her family with helping her discover and pursue her passion for dance. Speaking of family, her grandparents, who are Vero Beach locals, can take credit for connecting Bella with Ballet Vero Beach ❤️

As she begins her Fellowship with BVB, Bella is most excited to connect with the company and become part of the Vero Beach community.

And when she’s not dancing? You’ll likely find her at the beach 🌊 or exploring her passion in fitness.

Please join us in giving a warm Ballet Vero Beach welcome to Bella Brady! We are so excited to have her with us and can’t wait to see what this next season brings. 💜 taken in Vero Beach, Florida by @balletverobeach
