SHARE THIS POST EVERYDAY!!! 🐾SHE WAS PAID TO TRAIN DOGS. Instead, she’s accused of leaving them to die.Bunnell, Florida - Ava and Karma never had a chance. They were trusting, loyal dogs who depended on a professional to protect them. Instead, investigators reveal they spent their final days locked inside a sweltering storage unit where temperatures pushed the heat index to 96 degrees.THE BETRAYAL: The renter of the unit, 21-year-old Alexia Veronica Barquet, reportedly ran a dog training business called Rapidfire Retrievers LLC. She was allegedly using the storage unit as her place of business. When officers arrived, they found the portable cooling wasn’t working, the water dishes were empty, and the floor was covered in feces and debris.THE SYSTEM FAILURE: This didn’t have to happen. Records show that Flagler Animal Services reportedly warned Barquet back in March not to house animals overnight in the unit. Police were reportedly called again in April for reports of barking dogs. Why was she allowed to continue?THE HORRIFYING DETAILS: Karma was found near the door, surrounded by flies, with blood near her mouth. Ava had already been placed inside a black plastic bag. Barquet reportedly admitted finding Ava dead earlier in the week but left her there, claiming she hadn’t personally checked the dogs because she had given birth six weeks prior.THE ACCOUNTABILITY: Barquet was arrested and released the same afternoon on a $6,000 bond. She faces two felony counts of aggravated animal cruelty. Each count carries up to five years in prison.OUR STANCE: Being a ‘dog trainer’ comes with a sacred trust. There was a time when I wondered if I’d ever feel whole again. When the weight of grief, heartbreak, and life’s disappointments felt heavier than I could carry. I smiled through pain no one could see and fought battles no one knew I was facing.But somewhere along the way, I stopped just surviving. I started healing. I learned that strength isn’t found in pretending you’re okay (daily life was forced) it’s found in choosing to get back up, even when your heart is tired.Today, I don’t live in the shadow of what tried to break me.
