Half of the fun of funk putaria is the insanity of the lyrics — Y’all want me to break down the rest of GQP? It only gets more explicit kkkkkkkkkkkkkk

As some of y’all may know, I recently had the opportunity to serve up Brazil’s national dish, acarajé, at Baltimore2Brasil 🇧🇷 Thank you all for the love!! 💓

Acarajé is much more than a food. It’s a deeply significant part of Brazil’s cultural history — a seasoned black-eyed pea fritter, deep-fried until golden and crispy, with roots in West Africa, where it is known as akara and is traditionally enjoyed as a breakfast food (culinary migrations!!)

For me, making and sharing acarajé is also about honoring the women across the diaspora who have carried these traditions forward. Whether it’s Akara, Acaraje, koesisters, falafel— food, street vending, and entrepreneurship have been integral to creating pathways for a better future, transmitting culture, raising children and creating a life on our own terms.

I’m also not new to this but true to this! I’ve been a student of Akara since 2018 and have often used it as a teaching tool in explaining diasporic connections through food. It’s deep y’all!

Major props to @baltimore2brasil and @tirzahallcaps and @daniel_garnet for their partnership, and incredible vision in connecting artists across the Diaspora the concert was 🤌🏽❤️‍🔥✨definitely check out more info about the program and residency and ways to support!

Gratitude to @feralblulotus for on the ground support and @mamashouse1426 for the salad also to my love @unique.theword for holding it down I could NOT have done this without yall!

Big shoutout to the women behind the scenes whose work we often see in community but not always with the recognition attached ! The incredible @malaika.aminata and @gaia.birch yall came thru in the clutch! Till next time! by @baltimore2brasil
