Repost @artnerdforever 👉🏽Across North America, the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) epidemic reflects racial and social inequities.

🇺🇸In the United States, Indigenous women face homicide rates roughly 4–5 times higher than the national average, and in some counties over 10 times higher. 75-90% of the violence Native women and girls experience is AT THE HANDS OF WHITE MEN.

👎🏽While thousands of cases of missing Indigenous women are logged each year a majority of missing Indigenous women go unrecorded or misclassified.

‼️MAN CAMP EPIDEMIC:

🚷“Man camps” are temporary housing for mostly male, transient workforces near resource extraction sites. These camps are often in rural areas where tribal communities live and have been linked to increased risks for Indigenous women and girls.

❌Communities near man camps frequently report a rise in sexual violence, trafficking, and disappearances. The influx of non-local workers, combined with systemic racism and gaps in protection, contributes to these unsafe conditions.

✅WHAT IS THE SOLUTION?

🔴Expand survivor-centered services by funding culturally appropriate shelters, healthcare, legal aid, and advocacy support for Indigenous women and families.

🔴Invest in prevention and community safety through Indigenous-led programs, improved infrastructure, and resources that reduce vulnerability to violence.

🔴Increase oversight of extractive projects where “man camps” are by requiring safety measures, accountability, and tribal involvement in decisions about said camps.

🔴Ensure long-term funding and Indigenous leadership by supporting tribal nations to create stable resources and generate more decision-making power.

I recall the dream of my papas. Both mixed men with indigenous blood and histories…traveling through lands for survival…

They came to me to assist me with holding my tears and warming me with their hugs and smiles.

I never had the chance to meet my grandpa from Oklahoma and yet I meet with him in interim places/spaces… so loving and kind. I listen to his blue singing and guitar playing. So grateful 🙏🏽.

✨RES 2026✨
This collection focuses on Temen (fur). After an especially harsh winter in the Yukon, I was reminded how essential fur has always been to our people. Beyond providing food and other valuable resources, it has protected us from the elements for generations.

I continue to advocate for fur as a sustainable, biodegradable material. Many of the pieces in this collection are created from repurposed vintage coats, carrying both purpose and thier story forward.
