We thought it would be a good idea to introduce the person who will be running your IDC’s here at Ban’s Diving Resort!

“Hey everyone I’m Darren and I’m the Course Director at Ban’s.

I’ve worked at Ban’s for 10 years and I took over sole running of the IDC’s in June 2024 🥳 I was working full time in diving during that time so I have lots of experience in teaching a whole range of different courses”.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿?
I was a Financial Analyst & Portfolio Manager for a Commercial Insurance Company 🤮 Don’t ask we’re doing great now 😂

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵?
All of them! Obviously the IDC’s are amazing and it’s so rewarding to teach the next generation of instructors but I also still love to teach Open Water Courses too. Seeing the look on peoples faces the first time they go underwater is awesome! I also love to teach Wreck Penetration as I’m fascinated by history and I have a wild imagination so Wrecks really appeal to me.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝘃𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝘁?
Self-Reliant 🤿 Always super fun to learn something new so I’ve recently upgraded to Instructor Trainer Level for this course. The next two months I’ll complete my IT Level for Adaptive Techniques & Sidemount which will make our MSDT program even more awesome than it already is!

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱?
Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, Greece, Dominican Republic and Egypt.

𝗙𝗮𝘃𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲?
Egypt! I try to go most years during low season in Koh Tao as pretty much all year round the visibility is incredible in Egypt and the array of marine life is insane! Ticked Oceanic Whitetips & Dolphins off the bucket list last year.

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲?
Sudan, Galapagos, Maldives, Japan, the list goes on.

𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁:
I hated my OW course and thought I’d never dive again 🫣 and now I’m a CD! Anything is possible with the right Instructors 🤿

If you have any queries or questions please don’t hesitate to contact me as I’m happy to help 👌🏻 taken in Ban's Diving Resort (Official Fan Page) by @bans_pro_diving

Some shots from our last Instructor Development Course here at Ban’s Diving Resort 🤿

We always make sure to head into the swimming pool significantly more times than the minimum PADI standard on all of our IDC’s! It’s important to give our candidates as much water training and skills practice as possible so they excel in their IE and feel confident and competent when they start teaching their own courses with real students 🌊

If you’re interested in being trained above and beyond the requirements in a professional and fun learning environment then please don’t hesitate to contact us.

We run IDC’s every month of the year on the paradise island of Koh Tao ☀️ 🌴 at the world’s largest certifying PADI dive centre.

Think fun and experienced Course Directors, world class training facilities in one of the world’s renowned scuba diving meccas 🙌🏻

⭐️ That’s a wrap for the September 2026 IDC ⭐️

Big congratulations to Andrea from Italy 🇮🇹, Mike from USA 🇺🇸 and Hermes from Hong Kong 🇭🇰

A shout out to Callum from England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 for completing his Staff Instructor course well done! Thanks to Kat from the Philippines 🇵🇭 who staffed this IDC and helped out the gang.

Such a fun IDC from the beginning to the end, we had so many laughs! The team put in the pre-work before the start of the IDC which helped to make the whole process so much smoother. They got better and better as we progressed through the program and ultimately smashed their IE with flying colours. Thanks for giving the Ban’s team such a fun two weeks 😁 💯% pass rate again!

We wish you all the success in the world as you embark on your new careers as @paditv Instructors!
