My new work @jemmadayprint made for Photofringe 2026, shown as part of our collective @bap_artists group exhibition The installation was so long that it was difficult to photograph in its entirety, but here are a few snaps. Bodily creases and cracks and juxtapose fragile lumen prints and plaster, bringing together material, process and the traces of the body. I’m really proud of the work I showed and couldn’t have done it without Stan @stanosheaphotographs who helped bring my ideas to life and who supported me every step of the way. It was a brilliant group show, celebrating an amazing range of artists and alternative photographic processes. #Photofringe #AlternativePhotography #ExperimentalPhotography #LumenPrints #ContemporaryPhotography BAPArtist by @bap_artists

Richard Billingham: Fishtank Richard Billingham Satellite Storefront Friday 2 October 2026 to Saturday 31 October 2026 “It's not my intention to shock, to offend, sensationalise, be political or whatever, only to make work that is as spiritually meaningful as I can make it” Richard Billingham A high-rise council flat in the Midlands in England. A family: father Ray, mother Liz, brother Jason and some animals. The father drinks a lot, the brother plays around a bit, the mother just about holds things together. Richard Billingham's book Ray’s A Laugh was published in 1996 and hailed as the photo book of the decade. Billingham then used the hi-8 footage shot in the family flat at the same time to create Fishtank for BBC 2’s acclaimed TX series. It was originally broadcast on BBC 2 on 13 December 1998. At their home in in Cradley Heath, Dudley, Billingham filmed his family very close up, recording whatever was going on. The video verité of Fishtank was contained within the compressed space of the flat. Ray sits alone in the kitchen, drinking and feeding the fish. Liz plays with her pet snake and her computer games. Sometimes they talk, sometimes they fight. Dispassionately yet compassionately, Billingham’s film registers the emotional roller-coaster of life inside the flat: the chaos, the pathos, the despair and the hope. @si.sandys BAP selected artist for 'Altered States' Exhibition for @photofringe 2026 I wanted to question and explore commonly held notions about photography and the portrait, such as: ‘the photograph reveals something of the sitters nature’ and ‘the photographer has to create a rapport with the sitter to make a good image’ Photographs of people are the most recognised and cherished of all subjects and I consider that meaning is not something implicit in an image, but is ‘projected’ onto by the viewer. I began to work with the wet plate collodion photographic process and using a large format camera to create portraits i became fascinated with the way the process imposed itself and almost dictated the results. There is also an uncanny realism and slight shift in rendering with a wet plate image which infuses the result. It slowed shooting to a single image every 15mins, which forces a completely different relationship to the photographer/sitter and the expectation of ‘results’. By giving up some control I found a new way of making images. 📷 1 - Leni tintype 📷 2 - Leni ambrotype 📷 3 - Installation detail #tintype #ambrotype #photofringe #artexhibition #bap by @bap_artists

@maloney_makes BAP selected artist for 'Altered States' Exhibition for @photofringe 2026 at @gallery19a Rachel Maloney’s practice combines experimental analogue photography and filmmaking with the investigation of domestic artefacts and family archives to explore how personal histories, particularly those of women, can be reimagined and retold. Her work explores memory, materiality, and intergenerational storytelling. Traces (2026) is a series of prints made from a single object – a scarf that belonged to her grandmother. The images are Photograms made in the colour darkroom. The scarf placed directly on the light sensitive surface of the darkroom paper creates a strange shift in colour resulting in bright luminous looking forms that emerge from the deep black of the exposed paper. The scarf becomes a trace of itself, an abstracted and repeated form with slight shifts of movement and colour, a process that is reminiscent of the distortion that happens within memory. This repetitive action echoes the shifts, mistakes and embellishments that occur in memory, as we try to recall, remember and make present a person, place or object from the past. 📷 1: traces (2026) C-type colour darkroom print 12x16 inches 📷 2: Works in progress for traces (2026) 📷 3: Rachel working in the darkroom #photograms #alternativephotography #photofringe2026 #artexhibition #bap by @bap_artists
@ninagarstang BAP selected artist for ‘Altered States’, our Photo Fringe 2026 exhibition at Gallery 19a. We’re excited to introduce Nina Garstang, one of our selected artists taking part in this year’s exhibition. Cyanotype has become an ongoing way for Nina to explore relationships between water, light, material and the body. Her earlier works on watercolour paper move between oceanic, bodily and synthetic forms, often using plastic transformed through light and shadow, photography and chance to create images that resist a fixed identity. In Shifting States, Nina pushes the photographic image beyond the still. A cyanotype seascape on canvas becomes the surface for moving projection, allowing light and liquid to continually alter what has already been fixed by sunlight and water. The work shifts between still and moving image, sea and body, natural and synthetic continuing Nina’s interest in photography as something fluid, unstable and in a constant state of transformation.
