We’re absolutely delighted to see a new cocktail bar open on our side of town! @bar.noba delivers a refreshing take on cocktails and non-alcoholic concoctions, along with familiar food served with a twist.

We were invited for a preview before they open next Thursday, and were not disappointed at all. The cocktails, while steering clear of the usual Old Fashioneds and LIITs, delivered some wonderful flavours. My pick of the four we tried would be the boozy ‘Writer’s Tonic’.

What we loved was the equal level of attention given to the non-alcoholic section, instead of lazily filling it up with virgin mojitos, fruit punches, or insipid slushies. Their rendition of ‘Butter Beer’ (in the picture) really stands out.

The food, while leaning on familiar flavours, has intriguing twists that make us want to go back for more. Case in point: the galouti pâté with shokupan.

The overall ambience and decor were exactly what middle-aged folks like me favour: music at an ambient level, so you can actually talk to the person next to you; lighting bright enough to read a physical menu; and no Greco-Roman-water-body themes.

We look forward to going back once they are open to the public!

Writers Tonic - If there’s one cocktail you have for the evening, this boozy one would be my recommendation. Gin and absinthe deliver quite the punch.

Ledger 404 - A twist on the classic gin basil smash

Galouti Pate with toasted shokupan

Watermelon, feta salad with a strawberry chilli aguachile

Sticky Rice 2.0 , a must have if you like pandan

Fresco Rubi, a refreshing tequila cocktail that blends jalapeño, guava , raspberry and lime

Ham, fig jam pide with buratta

Chicken gyoza
