Preston, Properly - Episode 5 | Friargate South

This thoroughfare is one of the oldest roads in the city, and is home to truly historic venues.

First up, join me for a pint at @blackhorsepreston, a one-of-a-kind Victorian ale house that's home to one of the UK's longest-surviving ceramic tiled bars.

Then it's across the road to @bar1842 - Preston's historic Corn Exchange that's played host to The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and now, a rather excellent restaurant & bar.

This series is funded by Preston City Council.

You’ve dined & sipped cocktails here ~ but this iconic space has some serious history 💪🏼🏫

Before it became the go-to spot in Preston, 1842 was home to the city’s original Corn Exchange ~ a bustling marketplace back in the day.. then we fast forward to the 1900s, it transformed into Preston’s Public Hall, where legends like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin & David Bowie played back in the day 🎶🙌🏼

The name 1842? It’s a nod to the Plug Plot Riots.. a powerful moment when Preston stood tall for fair wages & the Preston Martyrs statue right outside is a reminder of that spirit 🖤

We always bring the best vibes in the city.. & now you know the incredible history you’re walking into🕺🏼🍻
