When I was in Girl Scouts, probably about fourth or fifth grade, my troop as well as about a dozen others had the chance to spend the night in the Academy of Natural Sciences. I remember being so excited to sleep next to the dinosaurs because I was super into bones and skeletons at the time.

Well we get there and they break the news, we were sleeping in front of the bears, in a completely separate wing from the dinosaurs. To say I was annoyed would be an understatement, and I’m sure I pouted about it at first, but quickly we were taken to different activities and I ended up getting over it quite quickly.

Looking back, I didn’t know quite the experience it was at the time. Even if I had the bears looking over me instead of a t-rex, it was incredible calling the museum home for a night, and for the many visits I’ve had over the years since.

i’m so desperate to do the right thing i’m not sure what that even is anymore 🖤

six nights of my favorite band, six nights of an album so fundamental to who i am today, six nights of new friends, six nights in the best city on earth, the paris of nowhere.

i’m searching for something that i can’t reach 💙

i was only 14 when badlands came out, and back then i never knew how influential an artist could be to my life. the era of tumblr, dying my hair for the first time, and badlands in my earbuds at full volume in the back of my parents’ blue mini van. i never imagined what the next ten years would bring, but i knew this album made me feel things i never had before.

ten years later, in that crowd i was 14 again, hearing all my favorite songs for the very first time. this time around, i have the best of friends that i got to share it with, and even more appreciation for what music can change in someone’s life.
