Welcome to the third and final day of “MotoAmerica Superbikes at Barber.” In addition to five classes competing on the @barbermotorpark road course, activities are scheduled in the museum, including the Kenny Roberts autograph session at 10 a.m. and engine start-ups at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. And, of course, the world’s largest motorcycle collection.

Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum Curator Emeritus Brian Slark was an early driving force behind the Barber Vintage Festival. Slark described his inspiration for the festival on a recent episode of the @driventoridepodcast podcast.

“When we went to the new museum,” Slark told host Mark Long, “I thought, ‘We've got all the ingredients to do an event here.’ I said, ‘Let's call it the Barber Vintage Festival.’ We talked to people and handed out flyers. We thought we’d get 30 or 40 people.

“Well, that first year, we got completely overwhelmed—it was chaos. It's grown into an annual event, and this year is the 21st. It started off Saturday and Sunday. It's going to be Barber vintage week, I think, in the future.”

Full tank, fresh rubber: Today is motorcycle “tag day” @barbermotorpark. Alabama residents with DMV-issued Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum license plates receive free admission to the museum and a lap of the road course. The fun begins at 10:30 a.m. Executive Director Brian Case will lead the way on the museum's 1986 Suzuki GSX-R750. The lap is limited to the first 50 motorcycles.

Saturday is motorcycle “tag day” at @barbermotorpark. Last month, Alabama residents with cars wearing Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum license plates enjoyed free admission to the museum and a lap of the 17-turn, 2.38-mile road course.

Now, it’s your turn, motorcyclists with DMV-issued museum plates. Plan to arrive at the park before 10:30 a.m. Executive Director Brian Case will run point on the museum’s first-generation Suzuki GSX-R750. The parade lap is limited to the first 50 motorcycles.

Show us your GSX-Rs! We’ll lead off with Nick Ienatsch, who’s prepped his 1986 Suzuki GSX-R750R Limited Edition for the 21st annual Barber Vintage Festival, October 9-11.

The journalist, author, and co-founder of the @champ_school is headlining one of the six seminars scheduled for Friday and Saturday afternoon in the museum.

Look for the two-time national champ aboard his LE during Saturday’s @ahrmaofficial “Legacy Laps” on the @barbermotorpark road course, as well as in the post-event autograph session.

The GSX-R FORTY YEARS exhibition opens in conjunction with the Barber Vintage Festival and is located on the third floor of the museum.

The DUCATI 100 and GSX-R FORTY YEARS exhibitions are made possible with support from the Italian American Heritage Society of Birmingham, Alabama.

“Lotus 49 reborn: how to recreate an F1 masterpiece.” That’s the headline for a 13-page feature written by Marcus Simmons and published in the June issue of @motorsport1924, the long-running British motor-racing magazine.

Two years ago, Motor Sport named the Lotus 49 “Race Car of the Century.” That accolade resonated with the late George Barber, explained @classicteamlotus boss Clive Chapman, son of Lotus founder Colin Chapman.

“He felt that with his latest collection, the best thing to have as the crowning glory, as it were, would be a 49. We still had the title to R1, and George particularly liked the idea of recreating the very first one to the Hethel launch spec.”

The Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum has assembled the world’s largest collection of Lotus race cars. Make plans to visit and see in person the newest acquisition, the recreation of the historic first chassis of the 1967 Lotus Type 49.

For more than 20 years, Yamaha Motor University has been developing technical excellence through hands-on training, certification programs, and industry-leading education.

At the 21st annual Barber Vintage Festival, @yamahamotorusa's top techs will showcase their mechanical talents in the “United States Technician Grand Prix,” and you’re invited.

The competition will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, October 9, in the basement conservation area of the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum.

Note: A festival ticket does not provide admission to the museum. A separate ticket is required and may only be purchased in person at the front desk.

Yamaha Motor University representatives will be available to discuss career opportunities and answer questions about the professional training programs.
