After countless years of hunting the moose in the few day openings here in this region, our group of 3 had the opportunity to get our LEH, 2 bull moose. Within this trip the three of us not only got 2 on our LEH we got 3 total. Two on the LEH & another in an open zone. How many people can say all 3 of you got a moose in a matter of a week. - Photo of day one LEH moose.

So much excitement this 2026 season so far. All the hard work, consistency learning the ways of the moose & still continuing to learn. I will have to say they are amazing creatures, giants that softly walk our earth. Blessed to have these moose to feed many family’s this year. More content to come as the days go on.

• This stud was about 400 yards away, didn’t want to jeopardize spooking him getting any closer. So grateful.

But did you know that there are an estimated 7000 black bears on Vancouver Island? Which makes it one of the densest populations in the world

2023 hunt is on, first black bear! 🐻

700 Remington

Always continuing to learning the ways of the lands & will forever continue. The beauty in testing your limits & creating none.

2026 LEH Moose - That “Fuck yeah” moment right before the work begins. Sometimes in the trees they jump away so quickly & you only have one shot. Especially this big of an animal. That’s why it’s so important to track your game & never give up. This guy didn’t go far. But ….there was no blood 🩸 only tracks that I had to move leaves 🍂 from because it was so windy that morning. Some times they don’t bleed. Make sure you’re taking the time tracking your game. Some of us have spent hours to days tracking an animal. This was the first time I’ve ever shot something 100 yards. Everything has ALWAYS been FURTHER 200 yards plus over the years.

7mm Tikka 150 grain. “One shot didn’t even go 20” as they’d say.

Knowing how to hunt & grow your own food is about more than food. It’s self reliance. “Knowing your limits & creating none”. When you can put meat in the freezer & vegetables on the table from your own effort, you’re not dependent on a supply chain, a store shelf, or a system you can’t control.

Growing food teaches you patience, seasons, soil, weather. Hunting teaches you respect for the animal, for the land, for how much life it actually takes to feed a family. You start to waste less, appreciate more, & understand where you fit in the whole cycle instead of just at the end of it.
& it’s freedom. The freedom to feed yourself and your people with your own hands is one of the oldest freedoms there is.

But none of that survives if we don’t pass it on.

Every generation has to be taught how to read a track, how to mend soil, how to gut, clean, preserve, can, save seed, sharpen a knife, stay safe in the bush. Our kids won’t learn it from a screen. They learn it shoulder-to-shoulder, hands dirty, asking questions, making mistakes. Constant learning and constant teaching is how this knowledge stays alive. When an elder shows a kid how to plant potatoes or field dress a deer, they’re not just teaching a task. They’re teaching responsibility, work ethic, gratitude, & that food has a cost & a story.

If we lose those skills, we lose a lot more than recipes. We lose independence. If we keep teaching them, we give the next generation something no one can take away.

the ability to take care of themselves, their families, & the land that takes care of us.

“ THE GOOD SHIT” Been making a lot of hot sauce with my peppers I’ve grown this year, set your heart on fire in a good way ❤️‍🔥

Hot peppers 🌶️ from the garden
Fresh from the garden chopped garlic 🧄
Farmers market local Shallots 🧅
Rice Vinegar, any brand 🍾
Sea Salt, any salt works just fine 🧂
Brown Sugar 🍨
Water 🌊
Honey 🍯
Onion salt 🧂
Garlic powder
Maple 🍁
Paprika

Add your chopped peppers with the seeds into a pot, add in a couple rough chopped shallots & 4-7 rough chopped garlic cloves, add 1 part rice vinegar & one part water. Cook everything down on medium high heat for 7-10 min.

Take off the heat & blend until smooth, strain your sause back into your pot add one part brown sugar & a few pinches of sea salt & extra spices
