Barbies Enchanted evening!
I collect for different reasons, and during different seasons of my life, as I’m sure you do, too. Some times I’m able to seek and spend more, other times it takes more careful planning. I don’t have a physical list of grail dolls like some of you, but I do know in my head what I like. This doll, this outfit-well, they were a part of me from the very beginning 10 years ago. You see, I enjoyed sewing- mostly gowns, of course!- and I made this one in several colors: cream satin, red satin and of course, pink satin. I’d never seen the doll in person, but I recreated this iconic outfit, right down to the fur stole. Something about it made me starry eyed with girly dreams. Imagine, then, finding this doll, the outfit, the sweet pieces so darling and lovely- it didn’t and doesn’t matter to me that it’s a reproduction doll, that I had to fix her hair after our move, that she’s not quite perfect- to me, she is, and always will be. That’s the magic of Barbie, my dear friends- the beauty, intelligence and history she brings brings us joy, soothes our souls and fills something inside of us that we didn’t even know was there. Sometimes I go into my Barbie space and simply look- at all I’ve acquired, at the beauty , at how far I’ve come. She makes my life feel special and full of wonder. Spreading Barbie love isn’t a whim- it’s a joy. If I can lead one person to that feeling, I’ll consider us both the better for it. Enchanted, indeed! Stay safe dolls, and know you are loved!

My Barbie dreams, COME TRUE!
Let’s talk about these incredible gifts from @mattel and @barbie !
As a college professor and mom I’m always telling people to dream big, because if you can dream it, you can achieve it. I believe this with all of my heart and so after the last year of huge highs and lows, my goal this year was to connect more-with my family and students, with Barbie, and with YOU! I wanted to learn more, live more, spread joy more. The past month has seen so many of my dreams come true-connecting with you all thru my lives has been wonderful, the generosity of Mattel and Barbie have been incredible and my goal for connection with more of you? A real dream come true. I’m so grateful and blessed by all of this, and I’m not going to stop saying that because Barbie has literally made my dreams come true. I promise if you spread love and joy thru Barbie, your life will be richer than you ever imagined!
Thank you again for these gifts, Mattel and Barbie. I love you you much!

That Iconic Barbie swimsuit….
Have you ever suddenly seen things that were always there, but you didn’t notice? Let me explain! I knew I wanted to make a reel about my new Barbie fashionista 213 (thank you for the gift, @barbie and @mattel !) and then thought- what else do I have with her wearing the striped swimsuit? Well…. I had LOTS of dolls, from original size down to the teeny tiniest barely an inch size. How is it possible that I had so many but never really SAW them? That’s life, really. How many blessings and wonderful things do we have but some days, just can’t SEE? I know for me, it’s many, many things. It takes intentional effort to constantly be grateful, but when we have so much to be grateful for- when we look, we see so much that we take for granted every day. I’ve been challenging myself lately- to be grateful for all I have, and for our connection here. I bet if you look around you’ll see many things that you had forgotten you had- including, perhaps, an iconic Barbie swimsuit! Stay safe, dear friends, and know you are loved.

Barbie Dolls of the World, making the world just a bit smaller.

You may not know this, but our Barbie club has an honorary member – Natalie, who lives across the world in Namibia, which is in Southern Africa. It’s been so special, getting to know her and her beautiful country they face time calls and package exchange.
Perhaps that’s why I love the dolls of the world so much – not only are they educational, but they really do help us feel closer to people farther away, and they remind us that the world really isn’t as big as it seems. They are all people, and we share the same joys and the same woes..
That’s an important lesson for both children and adults!
These are just a few of the Dolls of the World in my collection, this batch from 1994-1995. They have luxurious fabrics, incredible face molds, and I feel they truly capture what we knew of each country at the time.
Looking for some fun reading? Each box back is check full of information- I adore that part!
Do you collect DOTW? Do you have a friend in a far away place? These dolls can connect you, educate you and delight you, and I’ll continue to collect them as long as I can.
It makes me feel like it’s truly a smaller world, and we aren’t alone in it!

What happens at Barbie club meetings?

One of the best parts of being human is being with people who love you for who you are. Chosen family are the best, and that’s why doll clubs flourish!
Since we began the #newenglanddollcollectors club, Ive gotten lots of questions from you as to what it’s really like. I can tell you- it’s loud, it’s loving, and it’s fun! Like any group we’ve been thru a lot together- illness, passing of family members, so many things. Still, when we gather, those things fall away and we become lighter, leaving each meeting with our “Barbie cups full” (Debs quote).
As we enter this season of thankfulness, I always count this group and these friendships as one of my sweetest blessings. I love each person for accepting my Barbie journey for what it is, and I learn something every time we meet. That is what life should be!

Barbie club begins with a LIST!

Are you a list maker? The busier I get the more I realize how important lists are to staying on track. I keep my handy Barbie notebook close by me as I attempt to keep all the balls up in the air.
Our host Mike has lots of fun things planned, and so I want to be as prepared as I can so I can relax with my friends. It will be fun to take pictures of our dolls together, and of course, my mini me comes to every meeting.
Not pictured here is the dessert that I’ll be making when I get home from teaching tonight – we love to eat together and so our potluck remains a staple of every meeting. I love the show and tell portion, but really it’s the eating together and sharing stories that makes me the happiest. One of the great joys of my doll collecting is being with this club and learning new things.
So how far ahead do you pack? Do you make a list like I do? Looking forward to hearing all about your experience, in the meantime, stay safe, and know you are loved.

Barbie collecting- it’s ok to change and grow!

A week or so ago, I pulled my Barbie tree out of the closet and got to work making it look beautiful. Usually, I choose one of my newer dolls from the year to put on the top of the tree as the angel, and I enjoy her from afar. This year it was, of course the new Barbie style deluxe rare chase doll, because she’s so very beautiful!
But then something happened… I found that I kept looking at her up there, and was sad because I couldn’t play with her. She’s such a gorgeous doll and looks perfect in everything. And while she did look perfect on top of the tree, I woke up and decided that I needed her more than the tree did!
I found this sweet angel that I had brought back from Barbie Convention, and decided to switch. Although I had a little twinge about it, in the end, I decided to take my own advice – my collection, my rules.
Now my tree has a beautiful angel on it, and I’m able to play once again with a doll. I truly treasure. My advice today? It’s OK to change your mind, because you’ll be doing that your whole life! You will grow, you will change, and things will look differently from day-to-day. That includes your collection-you’re allowed to deal with it as you like.

Barbie beauty – collect what you love!

I began my Barbie journey 10 years ago to tell my story- every day things, relationships, and so much more. That led to building dioramas, sewing Barbie clothes, and expanding my knowledge as wide as I could. There are literally so many Barbies that at least once a month I find dolls I’ve never heard of! It’s like an endless treasure chest.
I truly love collecting Barbie.
But- there’s one thing that has always made me uncomfortable, and that’s the cost.
Any hobby can be expensive, and Barbie is no exception to that! But I’m here to show you that it doesn’t have to be, and that some of my most beloved dolls are dolls that I myself had to rehab, work with others to complete, or unbox because of mold.
I’m not after perfection, because I’ve learned the very difficult lesson in my life that there is no such thing. Our beautiful dolls may come close, but there will always be something for people who want to find it. It’s the times I’ve gone out on a limb – in collecting and in life – that have felt the most authentic and beautiful.
So while cost can be an issue, do your best where you are. There’s a very thriving community of people who swap here, maybe you seek out that? Maybe there’s a local Doll Club that might be a good fit for you? Don’t crush your dreams, love- there are certainly enough people out there who will do that for you. That’s not Barbie collecting, because it’s not what Barbie herself went to.
Just remember that you, like Barbie, can be anything – so be a collector, and be kind.
There are too many dolls here to identify, but they are all beautiful, all loved- and all were affordable.
Collect what you love, how you can! Your journey is yours alone.

Barbie Totally Hair-the very BEST!

Every collector has a different dream of their perfect doll, but mine has always been the incredible Totally Hair Barbie.
I’ve spent some time thinking about it, and I can’t really pin it down to one thing. Is it the long luxurious hair? I’ve had long hair all my life so it might be that.
Is it the Pucci inspired Print of her mini dress? The colors are classics, maybe it’s that.
I think, though, that it’s because of the way she came into my life. Discovered that Barbie Convention two years ago by friends, brought back to life by other Doll Club friends, these two dolls just seem to have been meant to come and live with me. Since then, I seem to see them everywhere, and that’s such a huge gift!
So think about it, my friend – do you have an absolute favorite doll that lives in your heart? Are you blessed to have that doll in your collection?
And remember – collecting takes time, and just like life, it’s the journey and not the destination.

Barbie collecting- let me deinfluence you!

Often new collectors are afraid to post photos or video of their collection, because it’s not “perfect” - I hear this all the time, and it truly makes me sad because we are here to connect with each other, and to share the beauty of Doll collecting.
So, I’m here to deinfluence you, and to show you some behind the scenes footage of what things really look like here. I started out with one Barbie doll and a Christmas elf 10 years ago. Since then, it has grown to what you see here, but no matter where I go, I remember this: I AM HERE TO CONNECT WITH YOU, and to share Barbie joy.
So! Do not be afraid to be real, my friends, there’s nothing more special as you are a unicorn all your own. Everyone’s doll collecting journey is different. Everyone’s doll space is different. Everyone’s Doll photography skills are different. This is a place of joy, growth, and sharing, and we can’t do that without you!
If you’re newer to collecting or have lost your spark, I hope that you’ll stay here for a tiny bit of inspiration, and a whole lot of big company. Everything I do, from the set up of my Doll space to the content I post, is to share with everyone the joy that Barbie gives to me. I want you here, too!

Barbie diorama accessories are everywhere!

After my fun trip to @worldmarket last week, I knew I had something special for my Barbie dioramas with this Bar Cart tree ornament- but WHERE to put it?
Check out the various locations I tried before coming up with the perfect spot, and, don’t stop there! There’s some behind the scenes stuff to remind you that scale is rarely perfect, but you? Your imagination can make anything work, and I show you how I did it.
Miniatures are a fabulous part of our Barbie life and I had so much fun with this one!
