I recently got an influx of followers, so I thought it was about time I re-introduced myself. It’s been years. Lots have changed, but nothing has changed.

My name is Barbro Andersen (she/her), and I’m a self taught multidisciplinary artist based in Oslo, Norway. I wake up every day wanting to throat punch the patriarchy, but after a cup of coffee I usually end up choosing the slightly less violent option of making art instead.

When I call myself a multidisciplinary artist, this instagram account is a very good visual representation of what I mean.

I do digital illustrations of levitating vulvas one day, layered abstract acrylic paintings the next, and on the third day, since I’m still waiting for my linoprints to dry, I pull out my Micron pens to doodle while I wait for my wood burning tool to get warm enough to incinerate runes into the wood I collected in the woods while I was chasing that huge double rainbow with my camera shortly after that crazy storm eight years ago, around the time I finished my gigantic 3D mandala with a pen that melts plastic, which my wife gave me for Christmas after I did my second runway show and that photoshoot for Vogue Korea. On day four, I write poems, but because I’m exhausted from being alive, I might disappear for a week (or five) while I try to become less overwhelmed by myself and the world. Also, I’m a full blown lesbian.

I actually don’t have ADHD, my mother had me tested. I am aware it might look that way to some people tho, but that’s just my personality. I do however struggle with chronic migraines and severe depression. And a (un)healthy obsession with dog and candy and dogs.

So if you’re into that sort of stuff, HI! It is so nice to meet you! Thanks for giving me a follow! ♥️ taken in Oslo, Norway by @barbroandersen

I’ll love you forever, Pippi 🐾💔
06.01.2009 - 23.07.2025

Every-time I try to make something to eat, I start sobbing. I always shared a tiny piece of whatever I was making with Pippi. As long as it was safe, of course. And if it wasn’t safe, I’d find a piece of something else to give her as a replacement.

Cucumber and cheese is the worst. Then yoghurt, and watermelon (without the seeds because those are poisonous). And she would always get the last piece of my ice cream or Mr Freeze. I gave her everything from the blueberries in my breakfast bowl, to the foam of my latte. She didn’t like eggs though, that’s pretty much the only thing she would spit out. I think it was a texture thing.

When Pippi first moved in with us on 2012, we always started our day by sharing a croissant and a banana. I made such a mess eating those croissants, and it became our little ritual. The thin, crispy layers of delicious crust would fly everywhere, landing on my pants and my shirt and on Pippi’s tiny head. She loved that. It was a perfect way to start our day. A nose work session with a French twist, and a tiny piglet on a mission.

I may have made more of a mess than I had to.. but, if you’ve ever loved a dog - you know. That’s how it works.

Once she finished vacuuming all the Croissant crumbs, she would get a tiny piece of my banana as a reward. Yes, a reward - for finding all the treats. Don’t judge me.

Throughout the years, she always loved banana. The pieces may have gotten smaller with every tooth pulled, due to periodontitis, but the portions were always generous.

Pips lived a full life, in spite of different ailments. Our tiny monkey was for example allergic to mosquitoes, and fish. And we almost lost her a few times. (Cont.) by @barbroandersen

Night Fruit (2025)
Digital art

Deep and ripe with quiet tension, Night Fruit holds what comes after dusk. The slow pulse of becoming, of growth unseen. Its dark plum hues invite a kind of stillness, a reminder that transformation often happens in secret. In the quiet moments. There’s a richness to the shadows, a sense of something tender taking root. taken in Oslo, Norway by @barbroandersen

Introducing my new series: #Transfiguration.

A queer blackout poetry collection, found within known TERF publications.

#Transfiguration is about transformation; of text, of meaning, of power. It’s about reclaiming stories; our own, as well as the ones we grew up with. This series aims to use an authors own words against them, altering their work to celebrate queerness - and specifically trans people.

There’s something poetic about taking pages once penned by someone punching down and blacking out everything except the parts that lift us up. It is like composting hateful rhetoric into a bed of wildflowers where queer joy can flourish and grow.

My friend Marija (@i_did_it_norway) inspired me to pursue this idea, and my wife kindly donated her previously loved books by A TERF That Shall Not Be Named.

Each piece is made from the remains of books by conservative, radical, or exclusionary authors. This is transformative work with critical commentary on the importance of true equality. Not affiliated with or profiting any authors who harms our community. All profits from this series will go directly to @pki.norge 🩵🩷🤍

Available at @osloqueermarket at @trekantenoslo, Saturday November 1st from 12-5pm.

And yes, I am aware I’m using a song from a church that bans queer leadership. taken in Oslo, Norway by @barbroandersen

RIOT — OSLO ’25
A linocut tribute to the Stonewall uprising of 1969 — the night trans women of color, drag queens, and queers said no more to police brutality and systemic oppression. Stonewall wasn’t the beginning, but it was a turning point — a riot that ignited a global movement.

This print honors that radical spirit and reminds us that Pride was — and still is — a protest. It’s about visibility, resistance, joy, and survival. It’s about claiming space in a world that tries to erase us.

Hand-carved and printed in Oslo, this A5 piece is a small act of queer defiance, made with love and rage.

Available at the Queer Craft Market by @karmaklubb_oslo / @karmaklubb_x in collaboration with @below._.the._.belt at @datteratilhagen this Sunday. 🌈✊

In honor of Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera and @stonewallfoundation ✊

Sappho’s legacy (2025)
Linocut/softcut
15x21 cm (A5)
Hahnemühle 230g acid-free paper

Sappho was a poet from the island of Lesbos, writing in ancient Greece around 600 BCE. Celebrated for her lyric poetry, she wrote with striking intimacy about love, desire, and the beauty of women. Though much of her work survives only in fragments, the emotional clarity and tenderness of her verses have resonated for centuries.

Sappho’s deep affection for women has made her an enduring symbol of queer love. The very word lesbian is derived from her home island, and sapphic—meaning women-loving-women—comes from her name. Despite being separated from us by time, Sappho remains a vital icon for the lesbian and queer community: a testament to the timelessness of queer expression, art, and desire.

A limited edition of “Sappho’s legacy” will be available for purchase at @karmaklubb_oslo Queer Craft Market on June 8th: a beautifully fruity craft market in collaboration with @below._.the._.belt and @datteratilhagen 🏳️‍🌈

I will also be donating one of my prints to this years fundraiser and silent auction where #QCM is raising money for @gazasunbirds (gazasunbirds.org)🕊️ by @barbroandersen

The Softness of Peonies (2025)
Digital art

Peonies have always felt like a quiet kind of strength to me. Powerful, understated. Confident. Their layered blooms hold space for growth and healing, the kind that happens when no one is watching.

In medieval Europe, peonies were planted in monastery gardens and used to ease “melancholy of the heart,” and some even whispered of their power to cure insanity.

Across cultures, they have long symbolized resilience and renewal — and for me, they are a reminder that healing unfolds gently, in layers, over time.
