POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
🐶 Wanting to meet one of our dogs but already have a dog at home? Don’t forget to bring your resident canine friend with you! 🐶

If you’re hoping to adopt a dog and already have one at home, a meet and greet is a mandatory part of the adoption process. This allows us to ensure the dogs are compatible and that everyone can be safely managed, giving the adoption the best chance of success.

Please keep the following in mind:
🐾 Bring your resident dog with you when you visit. If you’ve travelled a long way and your dog isn’t with you, unfortunately we won’t be able to proceed with the adoption.
🐾 We cannot place holds under any circumstances. If you’re travelling from further away, we recommend arriving as close to opening time as possible with your resident dog.
🐾 You’re always welcome to give us a call beforehand if you have any questions about a particular dog or the adoption process.
🐾 This requirement does not apply to cats. Cats do not require cat-to-cat meet and greets before adoption.
🐾 Please read each dog’s profile carefully before visiting. If a dog is listed as requiring an “only dog home”, we will not conduct a meet and greet with another dog. These decisions are made with the safety and wellbeing of all dogs, adopters and staff in mind.
🐾 Not all of our animals are desexed at the time they’re advertised for adoption. However, all animals must be desexed before leaving BARC. If you’re travelling from further away and want to make sure your new family member is ready to head home on the day, please give us a call beforehand and we’ll be happy to let you know their desexing status.
🐾 Don’t forget to bring a collar and lead! We do our best to provide these where possible, but we rely heavily on generous donations and can’t always guarantee we’ll have the right size available. Bringing your own means you’re ready to head home straight away—and if you have any spare collars or leads at home, we’d always be grateful for donations to help future adopters too!

We can’t wait to help you find the perfect match! 🐾❤️ by @barcblacktown

💔 Big Dogs Have Big Hearts, Too 💔

While we’re always so happy to see our little dogs head off to their forever homes, it’s hard not to notice the bigger dogs who are left behind, watching as others leave.

Our little dogs can sometimes find their forever homes within hours or days of becoming available for adoption at BARC, while some of our bigger dogs spend months, or even years, waiting for someone to choose them. 💔

They have just as much love to give, just as many cuddles to share, and just as much hope of finding a family of their own. They dream of warm beds, walks with their favourite person, and finally having somewhere to call home, too.

We celebrate every adoption, but we wish our bigger dogs could experience that same excitement and happiness. They deserve to be someone’s first choice, to be loved unconditionally, and to know what it feels like to finally leave the kennels behind.

So, while you’re looking for your next best friend, please don’t overlook the bigger dogs. Your perfect companion might be waiting right here at BARC. 🐾❤️

Big dogs deserve big love, too. Please don’t let their size be the reason they’re left waiting.

🐾 Already have a dog at home? If you’d like to meet any of these beautiful dogs and already have a resident dog, please bring them with you! Dog-to-dog meet and greets are a mandatory part of our adoption process to ensure the best possible match and a safe introduction for everyone involved. Unfortunately, we cannot proceed with an adoption without your resident dog present.

🐾💗 WHEELIE HAS THREE LEGS… BUT FOUR MILLION REASONS TO LOVE HER! 💗🐾

Council reference number: IMP-26-00786
Sex: Female
Breed: Domestic
Age: 2-3 yrs

Meet Wheelie! 🥹 This sweet girl might be a little shy when you first meet her, but give her some time, patience and a quiet space to settle in… and you’ll soon discover the smoochy little sweetheart hiding underneath that timid exterior. 💕

Wheelie needs a very special home — one that understands she has three legs and is willing to give her the time she needs to build her confidence. She’s looking for an experienced, patient and quiet cat home where she can take things at her own pace.

Once she trusts you, Wheelie is wonderfully sweet and affectionate, and we have a feeling her future human is going to become very well acquainted with those smooches. 🥰

🏡 Wheelie could suit:
🐱 A home with another cat, with a slow and careful introduction
👧 Older, understanding and cat-savvy children
💗 An experienced owner who understands her three-legged lifestyle
🤫 A calm, quiet home where she can build confidence at her own pace

⚠️ RESTRICTED: Wheelie is shy, has three legs and needs a quiet, experienced cat home.

Could you be the patient person Wheelie has been waiting for? 🐾

🐾💙 STAFFY SEPTEMBER IS HERE! 💙🐾

Council reference number: IMP-26-01497
Sex: Male
Breed: Staffy
Age: 1 yr

We’re kicking off Staffy September by introducing you to one of our beautiful Staffy boys — Ninja! 🥷🐶

Ninja is a big, energetic puppy at heart who absolutely loves people, food, playtime and being outdoors! 😍 He’s a very excitable boy, so he’ll need a family who is ready to help him learn his manners and put his enthusiasm to good use. Being food motivated should make training a whole lot easier! 😂

When it comes to other dogs, Ninja has excellent social skills and absolutely loves spending time with his canine friends. He could be a great match for another friendly dog who would enjoy having an energetic mate around. 🐕💙

Ninja is also relatively independent and loves hanging out outside, so he could potentially suit a full-time working household where he gets plenty of enrichment, exercise and attention when his people are home.

He’d suit older, dog-savvy children who are comfortable around a boisterous big puppy. If you’re looking for a fun-loving Staffy with plenty of personality, Ninja could be your guy! 🥹💙

And remember — ALL Staffies and Staffy mixes are just $150 throughout September! 🎉

Could Ninja be the Staffy you’ve been waiting for? 🏡🐾

Opening hours:
Monday to Friday 8.30am - 4.30pm

What a paw-some morning at Dennis Johnson Library!

We had a fantastic time at our special Pet Storytime with Lee and Jaki from @barcblacktown 🐾

Our little animal lovers enjoyed stories and songs, learned how to stay safe around dogs and discovered more about responsible pet ownership. The highlight, of course, was meeting a very special four-legged visitor, Bam Bam! 🐶❤️

Thank you to everyone who joined us, and a big thank you to Lee and Jaki for sharing their knowledge and helping make the morning so much fun.

🐾📚 Until our next tail-wagging adventure!

🐱💖 INTERNATIONAL CAT DAY: CELEBRATING THE CATS WHO MAKE OUR HEARTS A LITTLE FULLER ❤️🐱

🐾 Happy International Cat Day! honestly… what better excuse do we need to celebrate everything we love about cats?! 😻

Cats are the perfect combination of cuddly, curious, chaotic and completely adorable. They can make you laugh with their ridiculous antics, melt your heart with a slow blink, and somehow convince you that the entire bed belongs to them. 😂

🐾 They greet you with the tiniest little meow
🐾 They make biscuits when they’re feeling happy
🐾 They curl up beside you when you need some company
🐾 They can turn an empty cardboard box into their favourite toy
🐾 They have the incredible ability to make an ordinary day feel a little bit better
🐾 They provide endless entertainment with their zoomies, funny sleeping positions and questionable life choices
🐾 And, of course, they give some of the best cuddles, purrs and companionship around! ❤️

Owning a cat isn’t just about having a pet — it’s about welcoming a little personality into your home. Some are confident and outgoing, some are gentle and shy, some are professional lap cats, and others prefer to show their love by following you from room to room. Every cat is different, and that’s what makes them so special. 🥰

And speaking of special cats… every single cat pictured in this post is currently looking for their forever home! 🏡💕

They’ve all got their own unique personalities, quirks and ways of showing love, and they’re waiting for someone to give them the second chance they deserve.

So, if you’ve ever thought about adding a feline friend to your family, International Cat Day might just be the perfect day to meet your new best friend! 🐱❤️

Come and meet the gorgeous cats waiting for their happily ever after ❤️

Because every cat deserves a warm bed, a full food bowl, a loving family… and someone who doesn’t mind sharing the couch. 😉

Monday to Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm
Saturday to Sunday 9:00am – 1:00pm

Our beautiful boy Gator is still waiting patiently for his forever home and he is now our longest term dog... 💚

Council reference number: IMP-25-00513
Sex: Male
Breed: Am-Staff X
Age: 1yr
Adoption fee: $150

In this video, Gator has plenty of “cool” things to say about himself... although we’re not entirely convinced all of them are true. We suspect there may be a few little porkies in there! 😂

But don’t worry, we’ve got plenty of actual wonderful things to say about him.

Gator is an incredibly affectionate, lovable boy who absolutely adores people. He’s always happy to soak up attention and make new friends wherever he goes. While he can be a little boisterous and jumpy when he first meets you, it doesn’t take long for him to settle and show his sweet, gentle side.

He’s a clever boy too! Gator already knows how to sit, shake and drop, and with a family committed to continuing his training, we know he’ll thrive. He’s eager to learn and loves working with his people.

When it comes to other dogs, Gator has wonderful social skills with dogs of all sizes and could happily live with the right canine companion following a successful introduction. He also has a playful side and nothing makes him happier than stretching his legs and showing off his famous zoomies! 🐾

🏡 Gator is looking for:
🐾 A teenage or adult-only home
🐾 A family committed to ongoing training
🐾 A home where he can continue learning his manners
🐾 A suitable dog companion could be an option

Gator has been waiting so patiently for someone to see just how special he is. Could you be the family he’s been dreaming of? ❤️

Opening hours:
Monday to Friday 8.30am - 4.30pm

❤️Let's find Peter a home!

🐱Our rangers found Peter and took him to @barcblacktown, who help us care for the stray animals we sometimes find in Woollahra. Peter's story is a good reminder to make sure your pet is microchipped, so that if they get lost, our rangers can get them back to you.

🏠If you'd like to help Peter find his home, please share this post or head to the link in our bio to check out his details. If you're an experienced cat owner looking to adopt another cat, he could be the perfect addition to your family.

It’s National Volunteer Week, and I want to say thank you to all our volunteers. There are many who help Council provide services at our libraries, nursery and Blacktown Animal Rehoming Centre.

Volunteers are the living embodiment of community spirit, and we are lucky to have them.

People always say shelter dogs get a second chance when they’re adopted… but truthfully, we think they’re the ones giving us one.

Despite everything they’ve been through, they still choose love. They still wag their tails when they see us, still lean in for cuddles, still trust people with their whole hearts. These dogs are some of the most beautiful, forgiving souls you will ever meet, and the majority of them end up in shelters through absolutely no fault of their own.

When looking to add a furry friend to your family, please consider adoption. Somewhere in a shelter is a dog waiting patiently to love you more than you could ever imagine.

The dogs featured in this video are all still searching for their forever homes. Please head to our website to find out more about them and help give these angels the lives they truly deserve 🤍

MAX HASN’T HAD A SINGLE MEET AND GREET

Max is our oldest dog.
He will be 9 years old in August.

And somehow… he has found himself in a shelter.

No one came looking for him. No one came to take him home. And since arriving here, Max has not had a SINGLE meet and greet. Not one. And now he is our second longest term dog.

Every single day, people walk through our kennels and stop to admire the younger dogs. The fluffier dogs. The “more desirable” dogs. They look at the dogs on either side of him… but never Max.

Every day he watches other dogs leave while he stays behind, curled up on his bed with his ball, waiting for someone to notice him too.

But nobody does.

Sir Walter received an outpouring of love, attention and support — and we are so grateful for that. But Max deserves that same chance. He deserves people sharing his face. Asking about him. Coming to meet him. Caring that he exists.

Because right now, it feels like the world has forgotten him.

And despite everything, Max is still so full of love.

He is a friendly old man who is absolutely obsessed with his toys and tennis balls. He still gets excited, still gets jumpy, still has those little bursts of joy that remind you there’s a playful dog hidden inside the old soul.

He would suit an adults/teenagers only home, and while he may potentially do well with the right dog, he’d probably be just as happy soaking up all the love on his own for once in his life.

We know Max is older.
We know he isn’t flashy.
We know people scroll past senior dogs every single day.

But please… don’t scroll past him too.

He has spent enough time being invisible. 💔
