ALTSÅ, JA new contexts, new spaces and new people. whenever I introduce myself and my work, im often met with similar attitudes. a furrowed brow and scepticism towards all my work and everything I speak about being the whole transgender thing. «Altså, ja» features a readymade mannequin and a real quote in marker saying “is it you who makes the tr*nnystuff?” being something i was asked by a stranger just a few weeks ago. and although the answer to the question is yeah, I believe that dedicating my work to representing my community is empowering, and is something thats important to me🏳️‍⚧️🩷 Exhibited at New Beginnings in Galleri Kit 25-27 sept, hosted by the wonderful @detektiveikenott and @brannztrom taken in Kunstakademiet i Trondheim, NTNU by @bare.pil

Panelsamtale om aktivisme, synlighet og kunstnerisk handlingsrom Hvordan kan kunst synliggjøre erfaringer, løfte fram politiske spørsmål og utfordre etablerte maktforhold? Og hva skjer når kunstneren trer ut av atelieret og inn i offentligheten? Mandag 28. september inviterer Ytre kunstfagskole til høstens første Ytringskveld – en åpen panelsamtale om kunst, aktivisme og synlighet. Paneldeltakernes egne kunstneriske praksiser og erfaringer står i sentrum. Fra sine ulike ståsteder vil de belyse hvordan kunstnerisk engasjement kan omsettes til handling, hvordan perspektiver som ellers får liten plass kan løftes fram, og hvilken rolle kunsten kan spille i møte med samfunnsmessige og politiske spørsmål. Debatten om Ålesund kommunes nye kulturplan danner et aktuelt og lokalt bakteppe for samtalen. Samtidig løfter vi blikket mot større spørsmål om kunstnerisk aktivisme, offentlighet og kunstnerens handlingsrom. I panelet: Tine Semb: kunstner og grunnlegger av Karmaklubb*, en autonom, nomadisk og skeiv plattform som beveger seg mellom kunst, klubbkultur, samtale, publisering og forskning. Karin Augusta Nogva: billedkunstner med base i Ålesund. Gjennom blant annet grafikk, installasjon og performance retter hun oppmerksomheten mot naturinngrep og menneskets forhold til andre arter. Pil Ulheim: kunststudent ved Kunstakademiet i Trondheim (KiT), og tidligere student ved Ytre kunstfagskole. Han undersøker særlig kjønn, identitet og samfunnets normer, med interesse for kunstens møte med det offentlige rommet. Samtalen modereres av Trine Røssevold, billedkunstner og rektor ved Ytre kunstfagskole. Det blir satt av tid til spørsmål fra publikum. Det formelle programmet varer til ca. kl. 19.00, og etterpå er det mulig å bli igjen for uformell prat og videre diskusjon. Gratis inngang – åpent for alle. Velkommen til Ytringskveld på Ytre! PUZZLING EVIDENCE, OSLO This weekend, I exhibited two new works at Khio’s gallery in Oslo! The show revolved around conspiracies and todays information society. Both of my pieces were based on the transgender body’s position today. Thankyou so much to everyone who came by 🩷 swipe to read a bit about my works! “The Perfect Gateway” and “Disclosure_NOW” The Perfect Gateway Digital Photography on print The transgender body is a heavily debated topic, often without any trans people present. We are objectified and sexualized by the very people who claim to want nothing to do with us. This photo shows a body without any clear gender markers, making it harder to place in any social category. It gained its title from something trans people often are made into, some kind of middleground between two things and never something fully whole. Disclosure_NOW Colored pencil on canvas Transvestigation is a conspiracy claiming that many major celebrities are secretly transgender. There are large online groups discussing this theory and using ideologies similar to that of racist and colonist theory on what someone “should” look like. One of the biological claims they make is about there being a large noticeable difference in the male and female skull. I have recreated this contemporary conspiracy in a style resembling how illustrated examples of racial research was done to draw lines to how some patterns of thinking truly never change. taken in Kunsthøgskolen i Oslo by @bare.pil

PILS SALONG: SALZBURG I just got back from a two week course at Salzburg International Summer Academy of Fine Arts! with Mafalda Rakoš as a mentor in photography as a relational practice🩷 Here are some closeups from the open academy, showing what i spent my time there doing 💥 I created an installation with my polaroids, my actual salon set-up, and a video documenting me helping Mafalda with her hair made by @simon_gerlinger Getting the opportunity to take my salon practice into a new and international context has given me so much, and particularly in navigating the aspect of the portraits i take. I am super grateful for getting to meet so many wonderful people, and also having some trust me with their hair. Thankyou @mafaldarakos for being a great mentor! and thankyou @summeracademy.at for having me ❤️ taken in Salzburg, Österreich by @bare.pil
