Checking in on someone can truly save a life. September 10 is R U OK? Day, a reminder that we do not need to be experts to start a conversation that matters.
Not everyone who is struggling shows it. Often, the people who seem the strongest, laugh the loudest, or always have it all together are fighting quiet battles behind closed doors. You do not need special training or all the answers, you just need to show up and ask.
To start the conversation, find a quiet moment and simply ask how they are really going. Be open minded, listen without interrupting, and give them space to talk without rushing to fix everything. Ask how you can support them or gently encourage them to reach out to a professional or loved one, and set a reminder to follow up in a few days to show you genuinely care.
Reach out to a mate, a family member, or a colleague today. A simple text, a quick phone call, or a catch up over coffee could mean the world to someone who needs it most.

Ej had his best mate come stay over on the weekend for an early birthday sleepover, and what a ball they had from skatepark hangs to spring fair and even snuck in ice cream. I love their little friendship they have! by @barrie85

Here we are again, Stu, another year since you grew your wings. There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think of you or wonder what if I had rang you to check in sooner. You were not only my cousin but my best mate. I miss you so much and wish I could turn back time just to see you again and have a couple of tins with you.
