We’re honored to see this Hancock Park residence featured in @archdigest ‘s story, “Queen Victoria’s Dining Chairs and a Bronze Cat Faucet Create the ‘Right Mix of Weirdness’ in This 1920s LA Home.”

This @samfroststudio image captures one of our favorite architectural moments. A new cross groin vaulted interior loggia (or vaulted arcade or groin-vaulted gallery) connects the original residence to a contemporary guest house and gym. Rather than imitate the historic architecture, the new work draws inspiration from the original home’s scale, proportions, and architectural language while creating something distinctly all its own. New steel arched windows, bottle glass, handcrafted concrete tile, and a warm Douglas fir plywood-lined fitness room extend the home’s architectural language through a contemporary lens. The juxtaposition is unexpected, a little unconventional, and perhaps just the right amount of “weird.”

It was a privilege to steward the thoughtful evolution of one of Los Angeles’ great historic homes alongside an extraordinary team of owners, collaborators, consultants, craftspeople, and builders.

Our sincere thanks to the homeowners for their trust, to Barry Fox for his beautiful interiors, to Sam Frost for beautifully capturing the project, and to the editors and team at Architectural Digest for sharing the story.

We can’t wait to share the story behind the story, from the architecture and preservation to the collaboration, craftsmanship, and the many people who helped make this project possible.
