My Sun-Dried Songkhla exhibition with @tcdc.songkhla and @aeyspace runs until October 11th. I was fascinated with how many people sun dried so many things. I think it must be one of the oldest traditions in the region. #tcdcsongkhla #aeyspace #sundriedsongkhla taken in TCDC Songkhla by @barrymac84

Sun-Dried Sonkhla is a collection of photos I made as part of a 3 week residency at the @aeyspace in April 2026. I was given freedom to shoot what I liked and I let daily photo walks build a collection of photos. So many people were sun drying all kinds of things and I quickly saw that this was a wonderful window into the world of what people were eating and how they still kept using a method that will date back tens of thousands of years. Solar power is all around us here in Thailand and I would like to see us use it more and more. taken in A.E.Y.Space by @barrymac84

Sundried Songkhla

Exhibited at Yindee Wall on Raman road, Songkhla Old Town
Opening date : 12 September at 5 pm at a.e.y.space

Sun-Dried Songkhla: It was an everyday occurrence to bump into all kinds of things being sundried on the street all over Songkhla. Chillies, pork, rice, orange peels, shrimp, fish, squid, durian husks, flowers, tea, egg shells, bread crumbs, cutlery, coffee cups, cats litter tray, clothes, solar batteries and even a prayer mat. Sometimes there is a lot of talk about traditions and culture, but then you realise they are actually quite recent occurrences. Sun drying is maybe one of the oldest traditions in Thailand and a link to the past and nature that really grabbed my attention. It’s not only aesthetically beautiful, but also a lovely way to see the important ingredients in the local people’s lives. It is the original harnessing of the sun‘s power and shows us a possible future of using this resource to power our society in a clean and environmentally friendly way.

"Sameๆ Songkhla" นำเสนอเรื่องราวของความ“Sameๆ” โดยใช้การจับคู่สิ่งแปลก ๆ และมหัศจรรย์ที่แบร์รี่บันทึกเอาไว้ เพื่อให้เห็นว่าเมื่อถูกนำมาวางคู่กัน ความหมายใหม่ ๆ สามารถผุดกำเนิดขึ้น หรืออาจนำไปสู่มุมมองที่ชวนขบขันขึ้นมาได้ ดั่งคำว่า “Same same, but different” เป็นส่วนสำคัญอย่างหนึ่งของแนวคิดแบบไทยในการมองชีวิต ที่สอนเราว่าสิ่งต่าง ๆ จะไม่ได้เป็นไปตามที่เราปรารถนาไว้เสียหมดและเราต้องยอมรับมันอย่างที่มันเป็น
