Revenue up every year. Bank account the same?
Let's fix that.
S Corp Strategy • Cash Flow • CFO Thinking
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Your CPA picked your S-Corp salary once...

And nobody's looked at it since.

Same number year after year. Even as your business grew.

That one number drives your payroll taxes every quarter.

If your revenue has changed and your salary hasn't, it's worth a review.

Reasonable compensation isn't set it and forget it.

And it's a fixable thing.

Is your salary the same number it was the year you formed your S-Corp? by @barryroachea

Have you ever looked at your business and said...
"I just need to make more money..."

If your tax structure's wrong...

Or the bookkeeping is messy and the deductions are sloppy.

More revenue will cause you to overpay faster.

The tax code doesn't reward hustle. It rewards structure.

Fix your setup, dial in your salary, and clean up the books.

Then growth actually helps you.

Are you a business owner making six figures...

But you still feel broke.

Maybe your revenue's strong. It might even continue to grow each month.

But your bank account isn't on the same path.

That's usually not a spending problem.

It's a structure problem... taxes, timing, and how money moves out of the business.

So more revenue won't fix it.

You need to review how everything is structured.

Has this been you this year?

IRS Golden Rule for small business owners is...

The IRS must prove your income... and you must prove your expenses.

If you're audited they'll require every bank statement for every account you have.

They'll total up every deposit and include it as income... unless you can prove otherwise.

Then they'll ask you for receipts for certain things.

Depending on what that proves they may... or may not ask for more.

If you don't have your receipts you're going to run into trouble.

No receipt = No deduction.

Your income will always take care of itself. Your expenses only survive if you can prove them.

How are you keeping receipts right now?

As a business owner, do you keep your receipts or just use your bank and credit card statements?

Because your bank statements alone won't save you in an audit.

I've watched it happen more than once.

A client hands over bank and credit card statements thinking that's enough.

But a $50 Target charge could be groceries, office supplies, or a TV.

The IRS has no way to know it was for the business.

No receipt means your deduction will likely be denied.

The simple fix is to save your receipts.

And they don't have to be originals.

Scan it, save a PDF, print it later if you need to produce it.

Would you be able to produce a receipt 2 years from now?

The part of business taxes almost everyone misses:

Your take-home isn't decided by effort.
It's decided by setup.

Year-end "I need a write-off" season is almost here.

New truck. New computer. New Equipment.

Deductions reduce taxable income. They don't create profit. So you end up poorer, with nicer stuff, and the same tax problem.

Unpopular opinion: "It's a write-off" is one of the most expensive sentences in business.

Spend a dollar to save a fraction of a dollar, and you're still poorer than when you started.

Write-offs can help. They're just not the lever most people think they are.
