some of you might know this but for more than a decade I have simultaneously worked as a cinematographer and lighting designer for theater. I’ve designed nearly thirty plays for the most amazing directors of the polish avant-garde scene. I was very lucky to have had and still have the opportunity to collaborate and experiment with such talented people

the challenge of finding the light in both worlds, the abstract and the realistic is a true blessing 💫

you can check out my theater work on my website, link in bio☝🏼

The ARTOS Foundation and ATM Virtual have formed a strategic partnership by launching a research and educational program for the film industry.

There is no doubt that hybrid and generative methodologies are the future of this industry, provided they are developed in accordance with the principles of teamwork, transparency, and respect for copyright and image rights. These principles determine whether new technologies will strengthen the film community.

Therefore, we direct the program to people who want to actively participate in it: through educational workshops and development projects testing new tools in real production.

Poland today has a real chance to become a competitive creative and technological hub for new platforms and formats. We start with competencies and standards, because they determine how much of this opportunity will be seized.

The workshops take place on the ATM Virtual stages at ATM Studio in Warsaw, which is also becoming the Foundation’s base.

Our third film submitted to the FINAL Poland vs. Indonesia!

@artosfoundation.ai is competing in the @machinecinema #GenJam #DirectorsCup x @openart_ai representing Poland, #TeamARTOS Members signed up for the event, we formed 3 groups collaborating both locally at our @atmvirtual HQ and online. Polish teams and solo creators have beaten the ones from France, Nigeria and United States.

The challenge is to make a max 90s. film in 4h on a specific theme, character and prop. We are betting on team work and creative collaboration among the filmmaking community in the age of generative cinema. The finals motif was “Kishotenketsu” structure and “an old story from your country”.

@artosfoundation.ai at @acmsiggraph 2026! Only thanks to the legendary Paul Debevec I heard of this incredible conference and was motivated to attend in search for more answers on our journey to investigate, educate and integrate new tools for the filmmaking community.

Great set of panels including @pinarseyhandemirdag, @jonerwinofficial, @paultrillo and others on the “AI in Production” Day curated by @nvidia

Last week I attended @aionthelot at Culver Studios. The largest conference dedicated to integrating AI in the Film Industry. I had the opportunity to meet in person all the inspiring people I follow for best practices like @theblasian @nemperez @pjacefilms @jonerwinofficial @adilinthewild @verenapuhm @overjk @minhsmind @calebwward and many other amazing folk. Also connected with some key people working behind the scenes that build the necessary infrastructure for this new medium to thrive on the sides of creativity, innovation and regulation.

The opening session with @albertcheng from Amazon MGM Studios set the tone and what stuck with me was how settled the room felt on one point that the work belongs to the people making it. The tools are getting fast, but the voice, the taste, the decisions, those stay human and GenAI is not a button.

The part I keep turning over is the economics. The film industry needs to adapt to current production challenges but also expand creative possibilities. So many good scripts die because they’re too expensive to make. That’s starting to change. When the cost of trying something falls, more people get to try, and more kinds of stories get told. There was real optimism that this could pull production back to LA too, if the incentives catch up to how films are actually getting made now.

It’s not all settled. There’s genuine disagreement happening in the industry right now, and it should be happening. But standing on that lot, it was hard not to feel that the shift is already happening full steam ahead.

I am focusing on two things now that I believe need to happen: first are foundations for integrating the film community with these new tools through education and consulting that I hope to deliver with the @artosfoundation.ai initiative and second is supporting an inclusive framework and clear infrastructure where the change can happen through research and production so the new medium can grow as a creative opportunity for the present and new film community.

Recently, at the PSC Awards Gala in Warsaw, I had the opportunity to stand before some of the most accomplished cinematographers in Poland and ask a question that has been keeping me up at night: what happens to our profession when films can be made without a camera?

That evening, I formally announced the establishment of the ARTOS Foundation, a non-profit created to ensure that filmmakers lead the integration of generative AI into cinema, rather than be led by it. I read a letter of intent that you can find below to fellow cinematographers, and the audience saw video messages from Janusz Kamiński and Phedon Papamichael ASC @papa2 , both expressing their support for this initiative.

The problem ARTOS addresses is concrete. Creative processes that once lived on set are now being fragmented across timelines, units, and software, often without clear authorship, methodology, or legal grounding. Our industry needs to seriously address how standards must evolve to preserve professional structures and clarify who holds creative responsibility when an image is generated rather than photographed.

ARTOS builds on the idea of a Collaborative Innovation Network, connecting filmmakers, producers, educators, legal experts, and technology partners to develop shared standards, working methodologies, and a common language for this new era.

The foundation has a natural home in the cinematography community, but its mission belongs to the entire industry. If you are as concerned as I am and would like to be part of this initiative, I would be glad to connect. Please DM me how to be part of the network.

“It has never been easier to emulate, and it has never been more urgent to be original.”

My new article is out now in Cinematography World: FUTURE SHOCK: Cinematographers in the Age of Generative AI.

Generative tools can replicate a “cinematic look” in seconds. But cinematography has never been just look: it’s intent, coherence, taste, ethics, and leadership across the whole pipeline.

This piece is my argument for why DPs can’t afford to stand on the sidelines of this shift and why the next chapter of our craft will be defined by the people who choose to engage, set standards, and protect authorship.

If you read it, I’d love to hear your take: what do we defend at all costs and what do we evolve?

When Coral Anamorphic was still just a sketch on paper, Bartosz Nalazek, PSC believed in the vision.
Today, Bartosz is not only an early supporter – he’s actively using Coral lenses in his creative work, including the visually stunning music video “Himalaje” by Mela Koteluk, and his latest feature film, which we’ll be sharing more about soon.
“I’ve been thoroughly impressed with Coral Anamorphic lenses. They deliver a true anamorphic character, blending sharpness with a unique style that enhances the cinematic quality of each shot. Their design feels meticulously crafted, achieving a perfect balance between functionality and aesthetics. These lenses are a standout for anyone seeking both artistic expression and technical excellence.”

Generative Cinematography isn’t about losing authorship — it’s about gaining control. (Though very little so far!)
Visual leadership starts with understanding the tech — not chasing gimmicks, but learning how to bend it toward our craft.

The challenge is to preserve what’s at the heart of our profession. Is it threatened by this new tech? Only if we let it be. Not if we stand up.

Here’s a few pics from last week event on new technologies in film organised by the Polish Society of Cinematographers @pscinematographer, thank you for giving me the space to uncover some of the GenAI magic to fellow cinematographers and filmmakers.

Yet another 10-day Vipassana retreat is over, a journey very similar to crossing an ocean, disciplined, determined, one happens within the frame of your boat and the other within the frame of your own body. In both You cut through all weather that comes your way, keeping the course throughout the most turbulent storms. One is limited to a destination, the other is set for a lifelong passage.

I took this picture on this day of last year while pushing through the rough Bay of Biscay on my way to cross the Atlantic ocean. That giant puffy cloud afar is quite dangerous once you get close to it… 🌬️💨☁️🌧️🌊 Better keep them in a safe distance from your body and mind…

The Polish Vipassana Foundation by the incredible effort of old students has built an outstanding place to practice in this part of the world. Check it out!
