Sonya Schönberger presents excerpts of her newest film "Forest and War" as part of our final Research Ecologies event for 2026: Restless Grounds, Ecologies of Memory and Matter (in English). Held in collaboration with EqualACT: Artistic Research, Make it Feminist!

🗓 29. September
🕙️ 10-5pm
📍 bat-Studiotheater, Belforter Str. 15, 10405 Berlin
🌐 For the full programme, see link in bio
👉️ Please register via equalact@hfs-berlin.de and let us know if you'll join for the full day, or part.

The film explores the intertwined histories of war, memory, and ecological transformation in the forests surrounding Berlin. Once shaped by militarization, violence, forced labor, and destruction, these landscapes are now often marked by apparent peace. As vegetation reclaims the sites, their histories risk becoming invisible. The project asks: What do forests remember and can tell us? And what happens when landscapes regenerate while histories are forgotten? Focusing on sites in Brandenburg, the film reflects on historical erasure, contested memory, and the fragile idea of a German Erinnerungskultur in the context of today’s political shifts.

Sonya Schönberger is a Berlin-based artist whose practice explores biographical ruptures in times of political and social upheaval. Her work often emerges from conversations, personal stories, and archival material. She is the initiator of Berliner Zimmer, a long-term video archive created in collaboration with Berlin Museum.

📹️ Work-in-progress excerpts and reflections on uncovering, witnessing, and narrating these living heritage sites.

Ivana Papić presents her performative lecture, "The Wild Walnut" as part of our final Research Ecologies event for 2026: Restless Grounds, Ecologies of Memory and Matter (in English). Held in collaboration with EqualACT: Artistic Research, Make it Feminist!

Ivana Papić takes us on a journey alongside her feral plant companion, the Tree of Heaven (Lat. Ailanthus altissima), a species classified as invasive. Through the stories whispered by the tree, its silk moths, and speculative beings, the lecture explores multispecies ecology, considering ways in which we can co-exist and collaborate with these resilient species instead of trying to eradicate them. The Wild Walnut (2022–) is an ongoing artistic research project in which Papić explores her female heritage through the five senses and presents the plant as a metaphor for female adaptability and resistance to patriarchal society.

Ivana Papić is a multimedia artist and educator. Using text, video, sound, and objects, she creates layered, poetic works that explore notions of migration, identity, and belonging. Since 2021, her artistic research focuses on invasive plants within broader socio-ecological narratives. Papić holds an MA in Art in Context from Universität der Künste Berlin (2022), where she taught both at Art in Context and Studium Generale. She is a member of the Klasse Klima collective.

Nilra Zoraloglu presents her performance-lecture "Ground, Redrawn. An Experiment in Speculative Cartography" as part of our final Research Ecologies event for 2026: Restless Grounds, Ecologies of Memory and Matter (in English). Held in collaboration with EqualACT: Artistic Research, Make it Feminist!

🗓 29. September
🕙️ 10-5pm

Nilra Zoraloglu’s performance-lecture explores how maps frame territory, making some conditions visible while leaving others out. Drawing on Frédérique Aït-Touati’s idea of a “moving Earth,” it asks how changing environmental conditions can be made visible when conventional maps tend to fix territory in place. The talk moves into an animated projection using climatic and environmental data, turning the room into a temporary space for experiencing change through scale, movement, and time.

Nilra Zoraloglu is a Berlin-based artist, architect, and spatial researcher working across architecture, ecology, soil, and experimental forms of spatial representation.

As part of the 2026 colloquium series Research Ecologies: encounters, disruptions, common grounds, hosted by the Berlin Centre for Advanced Studies in Arts and Sciences (BAS), we warmly invite you to our Summer Intensive on 2 July.

Among others:

Teleport Stasis: Mapping the affective infrastructures
My research investigates the inherent dissonance between the technological acceleration of digital interfaces and the persistent inertia of bureaucratic systems. Although we operate within a regime of immediate connectivity and instantaneous information, the mechanisms that dictate our mobility and belonging remain opaque and deliberately sluggish. I examine how modern infrastructures do not merely facilitate access, but actively administer our affective states. In my lecture-performance and workshop, I propose affective mapping as a method to expose and pivot from these technocratic entrapments. Instead of accepting infrastructure as a neutral architecture, we approach it as a site of potential re-configuration to assert our affective autonomy from these rigid, automated scripts.

Yedam Ann @annyedam_darm is an interdisciplinary artist working in space installation, text, video, and performance. Her practice investigates the friction between infrastructure and human movement through the lens of a digital diaspora. Using speculative architecture and systemic design, Ann exposes structural anxiety and exclusion. By constructing spaces that mimic functional logic yet subtly fail, she reveals the absurdities of contemporary labor and social systems. Her work reconfigures neutralized landscapes, transforming spatial disorientation into a site for poetic inquiry.
