Setting a "reasonable salary" on paper doesn't count for anything if it never actually runs through payroll.

Writing yourself a check labeled "salary" isn't the same as processing it correctly with withholding, payroll tax filings, and a W-2 at year-end.

The number only protects you if it's actually operated as payroll, not just decided on. by @bascexpertise
