On April 3, 2025, I lost a beautiful friend, Austin Dickey @whereisaustindickey, when he took his own life.

I was later contacted as someone he mentioned in his goodbyes as one of the people who made a beautiful ripple in his pond. His mother Jacquelyn @ridinginnovations reached out to share portions of his ashes with those he had mentioned, so he could continue his journey with the people who helped shape his life. She just asked for one thing in return, to share a photo of the place I chose to bring him.

I told her I would bring him to the bridge with me to share my victory with him once I entered BASE, by taking him for an ash dive.

Today we got our flight. Conditions could not have been more calm and serene, and the odds even worked out for me to get assistance on the exit so I could take extra care to jump with Austin.

The Austin I knew was an artist, a poet, a musician, a gatherer and a lover. He was an adventurer, a traveler and an honest communicator. The moments I got to love and cherish him were short and sweet compared to all the time that will pass in my life. But he was the kind of man that made a lasting impact when he entered your life. He will be missed, but never forgotten.

Thank you for the stable PCA Chase @adrenaline.addiction, and John @coxlee25 for taking care of setting up Austin’s ashes while I got set up.

6 years of training and holding on to the dream through all the challenges and setbacks, and I’m finally past the tipping point of entry into BASE jumping.
There are too many words to capture the feelings I have now that I’m here. But I would not be capable of what I am today without the generous mentorship of Matt Blank @deathcamp.school over the last 5 years, giving me the tools and a list of proficiencies I could build to be as excellent as possible once it came time to jump an object, and for sharing his time to hold discussions and answer my extensive questions; and then John McEvoy @basegear for putting credence in my collected skills and sharing his knowledge on the process of BASE jumping and how it can apply to a dialed career of jumping.
I am grateful for the luck to have had not one, but two mentors who share a standard of excellence. And I’ll forever be proud to be a student to both Matt and John.
I’m elated and euphoric now that I’m here, and thrilled at the new challenges to train for. I love this life even more than I thought I would. by @baseicbarbie

Last year, when I started lifting weights again vs this year and I’m learning how to lock in.

Locking in to do what you know you need to do for yourself is easier said than done.

I’ve always been a work in progress with a mix of ups and downs on my lifelong fitness and athletic journey.

This year, I’ve been focusing on identifying what I’m leaving on the table, and then cutting it out wasting so much potential and energy.

Starting with what you know you should be doing that you’re not gets the ball rolling for big changes, the rest follows. by @baseicbarbie

Let’s talk about burnout, because it affects every single one of us.

My burnout really started healing when I dialed in the choice to 100% stop consuming any food, drink or substance that contributes to my health or wellness declining.

I accepted harm reduction only works so well when trying to compensate for weak habits. It took time to wean out those habits and cravings. I messed up plenty of times, but focused on the goal and not making excuses or being hard on myself. To be honest, I’m still a work in progress. But my mental, physical and emotional health continue to get stronger and more balanced. The discipline is easier on some days, harder on others, but it pays off in dividends.

From there, the other strategies I was trying were able to lend energy unencumbered. Such as:
- balancing my macros to fit my performance goals and timing the meals for energy and satiation
- mineralized hydration, and enough to meet the needs of the day
- supplements to give my body the building blocks it needs for performance and recovery (injected B12 is a game changer)
- training with weights to build strength, ability for sports and increase energy
- 7 to 10 hours of sleep each night
- making life choices to reduce cortisol and taking the proper moments to rest and down-regulate my central nervous system.

That’s the core of what has truly helped me heal my burnout cycle. The truth is, our bodies are telling us what helps and what hurts, and we are always consuming information to assist our personal intuitions in making informed decisions for our health and wellness. So are we listening and acting on that information, or are we banking on a future day that may never come to put in the work to save a sinking ship? by @baseicbarbie
