Helloooooo pink coffins! The dogs are in the office. This week I am progressing a dancer back to pointe work in their Ballet Rehab Coaching program, which means I get to create their first pointe exercises while rehabbing.

Common movement goals I have for this stage:
- Dancer establishes neuromuscular control of elevé and relevé in the shoe
- Dancer establishes control of balance on the pointe shoe platform
- Dancer continues building strength and endurance (especially of the calves and toe flexors) controlling the full ankle range of motion

Common mental goals I have for this stage:
- Dancer regains trust in their body
- Dancer reduces fear and apprehension with movement
- Dancer builds confidence
- Dancer experiences a sense of accomplishment for meeting this milestone

I also have individual goals for each of my dancers to address deficits – but those are personal to each dancer I see 🧚

Prior to creating (and dosing) pointe combinations I like to try them myself, hence today’s pink coffins. This allows me to be clear with my cues and work intentionally with each of my dancers...

How does the saying go?? Walk a mile in another person’s shoes first? Something like that. by @baselinedance

Highlights from this past month!

🌟 Able to catch a few of my peeps make their debut back to the stage following an injury! So so proud. Witnessing this is my absolute favorite part of being a healthcare provider for dancers.

🌟Taught a contemporary class at USF and a dance science + health education seminar (go bulls!)

🌟Able to see Tampa City Ballet rehearse and perform La Septima — a piece I was fortunate to experience as an original cast and contributing artist. Amazing to see how much the company has grown since I relocated to Miami for PT school. Tampa is lucky to have such incredible contemporary dance artists!

🌟Connected with a few of my mentors and mentees

🌟Saw FOUR dance performances — a new show each weekend! Grateful to be an audience member and have the ability to support my community.

🌟Improv danced & wiggled in a studio space (last time was in 2024)

Needless to say, I am one happy gal. by @baselinedance

recap from our lecture and workshop with the lovely Dr. Lily McCrossin! by @baselinedance

Baseline Dance is open for business! I am so excited to be launching Ballet Rehab Coaching and additional services in strength & conditioning and teaching. Massive thank you (and big cuddles) to my support system for encouraging me to get creative and to align my values as a dancer, educator, researcher, and physical therapist.

A special thank you to:
- My husband, Luciano (not on socials lol king), for the endless support, beautiful website, and turning my vision into a reality
- My mom and UW for teaching me that I can accomplish anything I set my mind to, and to never settle
- My sisters and best friend for being there to help me process lifeee
- My mentors and teachers for pouring their time, energy, and knowledge into me
- Delta 🐶 for always being by my side regardless of how late I stay up reading research articles and writing.

Grateful to have my spark back! More to come🌟💓 by @baselinedance

Favorite place to spend a rainy Sunday by @baselinedance

To MCB - thank you, thank you, thank you. This past season was phenomenal. Being a part of this organization was incredibly special. I have not been immersed in an environment where there are SO MANY hard working, creative, and passionate people.

For those who don’t know me, I am a firm believer that mindfulness with movement, access to healthcare, patient autonomy, workload management, and good ol’ fashion strength training are key components in sustaining a career in dance.

This past season was a unique one. In the Artistic Health Department, we saw a 73% increase in strength and conditioning bookings, 12% increase in massage therapy and body recovery bookings, and lower re-casting rates due to injury. We even made it through 21+ performances of Nutcracker with only one time loss injury. That is incredible. Amazing things happen when we all work together.

None of this past season would have been possible without my team of physical therapists and massage therapists, company physician Dr. Davenport, the dedicated healthcare providers in the community that also care for the dancers, and all of the artistic team members. It takes a village. Thank you all for being amazing, special humans.

All this to say, I am taking a step in a new direction. I will be taking some time to slow down to prioritize my own health and wellbeing (but not too much time, knowing me and my inability to sit still). For anyone interested in future collaborations, I will be opening availability for teaching (both educational dance science and technique classes), and individual coaching in the future.

Take care of yourselves and remember that rest -is- productive. See you again soon at drop-in adult ballet classes. ❤️🧑‍🩰🩰 by @baselinedance

For our dancers, the Physical Therapy department is a lifeline. Our incredible therapists, including Dr. Lily speaking here, take care of our dancers everyday - offering strength training, manual therapy, guidance and so much more. They are the heroes behind-the-scenes keeping our dancers strong and healthy. 💪

Your support through donations & ticket purchases helps support this department that is essential to what we do here at Miami City Ballet.
