‘HOW IT IS’ is a kinetic poem based on an algorithm that constantly rearranges text and sound: every time the program starts, a unique version is created. The text presented is selected by the computer program from a very extensive poem, only parts of which will ever be visible. The video shown here is a specific version, generated especially for YouTube. The audio clips accompanying the poem are taken from the video ‘Collateral Murder’, published in 2010 on the WikiLeaks website.

A selection of all my kinetic poems is now on YouTube – link in bio.

Two faces. Two stories of power crushing the powerless.

In his ongoing Face-Off series, Dutch artist Bas Geerts merges the silhouettes of victim and perpetrator into a single portrait. The powerful are unmasked. The silenced are given a voice.

Left: Alex Pretti, Jesus Ochoa, Glocks and Ten Shotgun Wounds (2026) - a nurse, ten bullets, a government that looked away.

Right: Virginia Roberts, Epstein, Semen, Dollar Bills and a MAGA Hat (2025) - a teenage girl, powerful men, decades of silence.

On view at Art Rotterdam.

Generated by a computer program written by me around ten years ago, this work arranges parallelograms at random on tilted grids. Using six acrylic colors combined with aluminum leaf, it creates the illusion of transparent, overlapping layers. This mural was commissioned by BKR Tiel. (Photos by Peter Tijhuis)
