HOP ON MY LATEST UPDATE! 🐇⬇️

Since November, I’ve dedicated over 500 volunteer hours to restructuring and rebuilding the organization (and a lot of house cleaning), and I’m so pumped to finally share that I stepped into the President role at the beginning of this year. It’s been an incredible honor.

A quick RA history hop: started in 1996 inside a converted closet at OHS & by 2002, RA became its own organization. For the past 26 years, it's been powered entirely by volunteers, but in the past 5 years, truthfully, it's cause a lot of burnout for a small pool of internal volunteers.

This year, I wanted to change that.

My goals for 2026:
1. Build a real internal structure to reduce burnout
2. Rebuild our Rescue Team
3. Increase the number of rabbits in our care
4. Secure a permanent home for RA
5. Create clear, sustainable volunteer pathways

With our tiny but mighty internal team, we’ve been working hard to build the first true organizational structure in RA’s history - and it’s already transforming what we can do.

And the fun part:
We’re rolling out new internal volunteer roles to expand our Staff Team

Hoppy 2026! 🎆

Hi!! 👋

Surprise! We are so hoppy to be back. We wanted to give you an update from the past couple of years:

Mom experienced some of the biggest career achievements of her life while navigating how she wanted to grow her photography career in her mid-20s. She’s also found herself even more involved with @rabbitadvocates (with some exciting news coming soon!).💜🐇

During this time, three of our four buns crossed the rainbow bridge - which was a very sensitive conversation for awhile. 🌈🥺

🐰Holly lived a long, beautiful life and passed at 12 years old.

🐰Rosemary passed after losing mobility in her back legs with old age.

🐰Herbie, the bun who never left our house, passed unexpectedly from GI stasis.

As you may have noticed, we welcomed a little new ginger boy into our lives - Carrot 🥕 - a hoppy surprise! Huge thank you to @austenbergquist, who rescued him after his boss called saying there was a bunny under her car in a Fred Meyer parking lot. Surprisingly, he was on his way to pick up Holly's ashes. 🥺 Carrot is his first bunny (we can't believe he rescued on his own?!), and he's been enjoying being a bun dad for the past 5 years.

Currently, mom is bonding both Carrot & Fern. 💕

So many changes, but we are back.

We can’t wait to share more bun hops, more Portland + outdoorsy love, and more bunny education with you all.

Rosemary & her twin! 🧥👯‍♀️🐇

People often mistaken her as a cat when we are on the trail, & sometimes she can totally pass as one!

She is the most (I've had 4 bunnies in my life besides her), calmest bunny I have ever met. The biggest sweetheart... & sometimes a little TOO trusting with humans.

This will be my 4th year with her - I saved her from the local golf course area. ⛳️🥺 taken in Oregon by @bassetsandbuns

🌸 Hoppy Easter! 🌸 Fern had such a great time meeting humans during our photoshoot at the Portland Cherry Blooms at the Waterfront. Thank you for stopping by and giving Fern some love! 🌸🐣🐇🥚

Fern and I wanted to remind you that bunnies are a huge commitment. 10-15 years. Please do your research and learn as much as you can before taking in a bunny as a pet.

If you'd like to adopt one, check out @rabbitadvocates to see when you can come to a bunny adoption events - where you can meet adoptable bunnies! They are such wonderful and loving animals. Rabbit Advocates are also always needing new volunteers and donations to cover medical costs because they are able to be adopted. RA does an amazing job rescuing these bunnies around Portland, BUT they are always needing homes to foster these dumped bunnies.💜🐰 Thank you RA volunteers for everything you do!

Holly got to spend New Years at the @getawayhouse with her humans! It was such a cozy time, enjoying the peace & quiet in the woods. 💭😴🌲

Side note for those that may be curious: a couple months ago, we noticed Holly's eyes starting to fog up. We took her to the vet, and the vet said she's doing great...just with a little less vision. She is reaching her 10th year in May, so she is becoming the old lady in the house. 👵 but hey, she's the OG! She is still living life to the fullest and nothing is stopping her from eating her food and binking!

Rosemary got to spend the weekend in a cozy cabin in Sisters, Oregon as a getaway. 🍂🐇

We are also currently working on our annual calendars AND SURPRISE! She will be the next bun for 2023. ✨ Mom captured the moment when she told her on that second image. She was too stunned for thumps. She's excited!
