“…a truly heartbreaking emotional peak, capturing the agony of a father’s betrayal with quiet authority” BroadwayWorld Il Cieco at the end of Act 1 of Mascagni’s Iris at Wexford Festival Opera. #Iris #Mascagni #WexfordFestivalOpera #Opera #Bass by @bassjihoon
Il Cieco, the blind father who cannot see his own daughter. Iris by Mascagni at @wexfordfestivalopera. Thank you to the critics who came to Wexford and wrote about this production with such care. And thank you to @sopranoleyla_gu, my extraordinary Iris, and to @maltesetenor and @jolyonloybaritone. Directed by Rosetta Cucchi @rosettacucchi and conducted by Francesco Cilluffo @francesco.cilluffo , with the Orchestra and Chorus of Wexford Festival Opera.
Backstage smiles after tonight’s performance of Iris! The best part of opera? The wonderful people you get to share the stage with. What a lovely bunch! ❤️ One more performance to go! #WexfordFestivalOpera #Iris #Mascagni #OperaLife #Backstage by @bassjihoon
★★★★★ Bachtrack ★★★★ The Arts Review ★★★★ The Stage. The reviews are in for Mascagni’s #Iris 🎉🎉🎉 Huge congratulations to all the cast and crew on this fabulous production. 'In the pit, conductor Francesco Cilluffo kept the score on track. Mascagni’s music has its uneven moments, with less compelling passages between the great surges of passion. Cilluffo navigated these with assurance, maintaining a sense of the opera’s overall arc and allowing the score’s more magnificent moments to make their full impact’ ★★★★★ Bachtrack 'With direction this sensitive and a cast of such quality, Iris deserves to be heard more frequently' ★★★★★ Bachtrack 'The orchestra and chorus sound marvellous. Mascagni’s neglected opera is impressively served' ★★★★ The Stage Production sponsored by @british_airways 📸 @padraiggrant @sopranoleyla_gu @maltesetenor @maltesetenor @bassjihoon @jolyonloybaritone @hannahobriensoprano @singerxiaosong @meilir.jones @joshuabaxtertenor by @bassjihoon
The final week in Wexford has begun! After a long journey that started on 13 September, we have just two performances of Iris remaining. It's not over until it's over. Let's finish on a high note — figuratively speaking, of course. I'm a bass! 😄 📸 Photos: @padraiggrant #WexfordFestivalOpera #WFO2026 #Iris #Mascagni by @bassjihoon

Look what I found after the Iris general rehearsal. No idea how it happened. Is it rare? Nah. Just the real opera singer's life. Same souvenir from the stage every time. 🎭 #iris #ilcieco #wexfordoperafestival by @bassjihoon
