…WoOoW wOw WoOoW…

In one month, my new album will finally be out @boomslang.records !!

It’s hard to put into words how much this record means to me. The past two years of writing, rethinking, revising, recording, and shaping this music have been both incredibly rewarding and deeply challenging.

I’m beyond happy and excited that these sounds now will leave my hands and find their way into the world.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey !!!

The artwork of xAYb v8v dYAx is by the greatest little punk in my life: our two year-old daughter, who teaches me so much about myself. How to forever not to grow up and stay independent and free, definitely some of the greatest aspects about being punk, right?

And as for the bright, sunny colour, yellow is my all time most favourite colour, not just because of soccer, (I have been a fan of Borussia Dortmund ever since...)

This album features the amazing Lina Allemano on Trumpet, the outstanding Christopher Dell on vibraphone and my long-time superheros Stefan Karl Schmid on clarinets / tenor saxophone and Fabian Arends on drums.

Working with Christopher is incredibly intense, but in the best possible way. He has this rare ability to completely open up new perspectives on music, structure, sound and interaction. Every time I work with him, I leave the process feeling like my musical thinking has expanded. He challenges everyone around him to listen deeper, react faster and become more aware of every detail, but never in an ego-driven way. It always serves the music. So when I say “Dell is HELL,” I mean that being around him can feel overwhelming because the level of energy, thought and creativity is so high all the time. But honestly, it’s also one of the best things that can happen to you as a musician. You come out of it transformed.

And actually, I feel that way about the entire band. Every single person involved brought an incredible amount of commitment, personality, trust and creative energy into this project. I’m deeply grateful for what each individual contributed, because this music could never have become what it is through one person alone.

In my youth it felt like music was urgent. You would just make something and chuck it out into the world, instantly getting a reaction. It felt risky, chaotic, and fucking exciting. I had this feeling like anything could happen. It didn’t matter that it wasn’t perfect cause we were connected, all part of an experimental community that was making actual tangible shit in real time.

And not much has changed for me regarding that mentality since then. I’m still hooked on that whole unpredictable vibe. The energy, the potential for discovering new things together… it’s why I still do what I do.
